Default What beastie is this?

We've been here now for 4 weeks, living in the Samford area ( just north west of Brisbane) and today we saw 2 of these big spiders. One of them I waved a light near and it fell to the floor. We couldn't then find it until I prodded what looked like a dead flower or some thing and it ran of.

Anyway, this is the beastie attached, can anyone identify it?

Mike.

P.S. when we get more settled we will post more.

having just read the above thread i'm starting to wonder if i should buy a bigger house when i arrive in auz..... I wouldn't want them huntsmen to get pissed off having a human living with them! :scared:

Looks like i'm going to have to try and find a bigger glass to catch them with.... maybe a vase would be more useful?

How do you get rid of them anyway?

A lasso or a noose around one leg, tie the other end to your V8 and drag the b*astards out

Seriously though.....a pint glass, a postcard and a quickhand is normally sufficient for a huntsman. They can bite though (not venomous), so don't go grabbing it.

If in doubt though, just kill it. Its not worth risking getting bitten by a spider if your not sure what it is. It could be a sydney funnelweb or somthing really nasty. The heel of your boot works best. The bigger spiders will just laugh at you if you get the bug spray out

... loved the V8 method of removing the spider.

i never handle the buggers over here so i don't think touching them will be a problem in auz. Thanks for the adivce though.

Dunno what it is, but get crafting and make the mother - in - law a nice card with it. Perhaps with a bit of green glitter and tinsel it would make a good Christmas card :scared: Maybe I could get a job on QVC.
