We've just had a campervan for the weekend.....
..... and visited......
Noosa, Eumundi, Rainbow Beach, Tin Can Bay, Hervey Bay, Woodgate, Bargara, Burnett Heads, Bundaberg, Childers & Maryborough.
$49 per day from Britz (Kingsford Smith Drive, Eagle Farm, Brisbane). Only booked it Friday morning, picked up Friday evening around 4.30pm (that's evening here cos it's getting dark!). Loaded the van up and off we went at 5.30pm.
Drove upto Noosa where we've been before with the intention of parking up in a car park overnight, bottled it and got the UBD out, decided to stay at a caravan park in Eumundi ($16 for unpowered pitch). Went to the Eumundi markets on Saturday morning; have been before, same old overpriced 'tit tat' for sale.
Next headed off for Hervey Bay where we'd pre-booked a pitch at a caravan park at Urangan. Good access to Fraser Island from Hervey Bay but couldn't go as we took our dog with us. Not overly impressed with the area, just 'alright' in our opinion.
Next day drove upto Bundaberg, via Woodgate - lovely beach, totally uncommercial and hasn't been developed AT ALL, lovely place. Had a lovely chicken salad sandwich from the Post Office cum general store which we ate on the beach.
Then drove onto Bargara, more developed, but not overcommercialised. Nice boardwalk on front, a couple of restaurants and coffee houses plus picnic areas. Not much beach to talk of, big rocks with a small clearing of beach area; nice place.
We next went onto Burnett Heads, nothing to see here for us, more for the boaties.
Bundaberg was nice, old style buildings. Driving en-route were lots of sugar cane fields with the cane rail tracks running through and over roads, very different.
We then drove back to the campsite at Hervey Bay via Childers. We liked it here, again very traditional old style buildings.
Monday we headed back home via Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach. Again, TCB held nothing for us (for the boaties again) so went onto Rainbow Beach. 4WD's could drive on part of the beach here and so part of the beach was like a road. Breathtaking views after driving through pine forests as far as the eye could see. Nice drive to this beach.
Oh well, work tomorrow....... here's a piccie of Rainbow Beach:

Hi Larissa, nope no creepy crawlies or slithering things in sight and believe me, Mrs Scun would be the first to be worried about that! Worry free!

Lovely photos.
We had a quote for a oneway rental from Melbourne to Adelaide.
Still mulling it over.
Was it easy to find somwhere to put up for the night? Also - what was the camper van like? I think it sounds quite exciting...

From what I have seen you will pay more for a one-way rental unless you can get this to suit the rental company. We actually paid $26 per day to reduce the insurance excess to $220 excess in total instead of $2,000. This made the daily rental price $75.
It was easy to find somewhere to stay, there always appears to be campsites available at most towns. Was it comfortable? Yes, but as we booked last minute we only had a bottom end rental available to us therefore no toilet. That said, it wasn't a problem as there are toilets everywhere in Australia and they don't cost a penny (or a cent ). Also at campsites there are usually good ameneties - toilets and showers so you can still feel human!
We would and are planning to do it again and go further afield. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

You can get one way rentals if you do it the opposite way to everyone else. then you are doing the rental company a favour by taking it back to where thay can rent it out easily.

sitting here behind my desk sweating my dooberys off looking at your shots makes me sooo envious! They look fantastic! .... makes ya wonna strip off and take a dip in that blue cool water.
By the way, innit great to see blue sea instead of the brown crap at cleggy. and that's if you're lucky enough to see the water.
one of my first planned outings once i've arrived, and have the bike, is to take a camping trip from canberra to melbourne then along the south coast,... well ok maybe just a bit of it! i can't wait!!
keep the pics coming, and that's a note to everyone who's out there!!

We are hoping to be moving to Adelaide in either September or January.
One of the things I am going to miss the most is camping. We have a folding camper (bottom half of a caravan and top half of a tent) and would love to buy a caravan or camper when we over in Australia.
Our main worry is creepy crawlies - At present I am getting used to wasps but still sometimes run around like a complete loon.
Anything scarier than a wasp would send me off to the funny farm.
Is the talk about creepies blown out of all proportion?????
I hope so as this is probably the only reason I would not camp in Australia.
