Default We're "Leaving on a jet plane" Advice on Campers

Finally after handing in our notice and stressing about the price of flights we are departing for Melbourne on the 30th. Other than spending 10 days in the Olivers creek retreat nothing else for us is certain... and we like it that way.

We have decided to take a month out touring Australia, before we decide where to settle, would would like to travel from Mel to Queensland and possibly end up in Adelaide.

We are quiet keen on the idea of buying maybe hiring a camper to enable us to tour and save money on accommodation. We are only looking at spending around $3-5,000 on a camper. (hopefully this is enough for the two of us)

Has anyone done this before and are there any recommendations/pitfalls we should be thinking of. Our friends have kindly allowed us to register at their address for the TFN & Medicare, is it easy/worth getting a PO Box for later on?

Any advice/help would be great.

Thanks,

going4it

I know that in Brisbane there is a place that does "buy backs" at roughly 50% of the price you paid.

About 3 years ago I bought a lovely 4 dr Holden for about $2000 used it for one month and then took it back. They bought it back from me for $1200, so not a bad deal really.

Cheaper than rental (just about) and 3rd party when it's bought. Don't know about Melbourne though!!

Just a thought!

Just remember it is winter in Australia and it can get pretty cold and wet.

Campers can be pretty cramped.

You may be OK but I would not like to do it with kids :scared:
