Default Welcome to Mandurah

Update on Welcome to Mandurah
Hi All,
As you know from my previous post we are a not-for-profit organisation started by a group of Ozzies, Kiwis and Poms. Our aim in starting this group was merely to provide information, friendship and support to anyone finding the transition to their new lives in Mandurah lonely or difficult. Although we offer practical advice and support to new arrivals many of our members have been in Mandurah for some years and just come along and enjoy the social aspect of our group. The group has grown too large to meet at Blanchard's, we now meet at Halls Head Soccer Club on the corner of Mahogany Drive and Peelwood Parade every Friday from 10:am to 12:00. In response to many of our members securing full time employment we have arranged a once a month evening get together (see website for more details).

I would like to take this opportunity to let you all know that this is not an expat girls only weekly moan session, it is a very positive group including men, women and children of all ages and nationalities. At the moment we have Ozzies, Kiwis, Indonesians, Poms, South Africans and Canadians in the group which offers an arena for interesting cultural exchange.

We have organised several successful, social events including a quiz night, a dinner at the Halls Head golf club and two theatre trips to Perth. This week we have arranged a night out including dinner at the Greyhound Races in Mandurah as well as a family picnic on the foreshore. We will also be offering tickets to the Mandurah Boatshow next month at a discounted price (check the website for details).

We are very fortunate to be well supported in the community and by local businesses through donations and concessions which means that we can offer a better information and support service to anyone wishing to utilise our resources. We are currently promoting a free course to parents wishing to re-enter the workforce. This is a one morning a week four week course (9:30 am to 12:00 pm), starting on 15th October and for your convinience there will be FREE childcare facilities available. We are now under the auspices of the Peel development Commission and have the full support of the Mayor (see last week's Mandurah Mail) and hope to be able to offer more community services in the coming months. We will be hosting a Christmas family barbecue and an evening meal (dates to be arranged) I will keep you posted.

In a couple of months our group (the brain child of a plucky, professional Sydney-sider, supported by 7 like minded people) has grown to over sixty in number and we are welcoming new people every week. We are over-joyed that so many people have welcomed the group and feel that what we are doing has really made a difference to their new lives here in Mandurah.

Everyone is welcome to any of our events, if you require any further information please call 0412559594 or visit our website http://welcometomandurah.com.au
