Default Welcome to Aussie health care

Those NHS knockers will love here , same problem's only you will pay more for less.

Three hours of chaos

A FEW nights ago I spent almost three hours in the Midland Hospital emergency department. Short of scenes on TV, I have never seen anything like what went on there.

There was a constant stream of people. I would have classed 20 per cent as emergency cases, but this is a free facility and anything free is popular.

I received kindness and concern from most of the people but with only one doctor, there wasn't much anyone could do. Many people jumped the queue.

I sat in a chair with a cup of water and watched mothers with children who seemed to not even know which part of their child needed attention.

When I could see that no order was to be made of this chaos, the attendant ordered me a taxi and I managed to get out of the place and to somewhere I could lie down.

My goodness, what has happened to our beautiful country?

It was more than that and you know it.

You made a Pledge of Commitment. Your word counts for nought?

Anyway you are an Australian Citizen, an aussie, just like me. So to relieve your pain follow this:

18 Renunciation of citizenship

(1) Where a person is an Australian citizen (that's you pommie)and:

(a) has attained the age of 18 years and is a national or citizen of a foreign country; or

(b) was born, or is ordinarily resident, in a foreign country and is not entitled, under the law of that country, to acquire the nationality or citizenship of that country by reason that the person is an Australian citizen;

the person may lodge with the Minister a declaration in the prescribed form renouncing the person's Australian citizenship.

(4) Subject to subsections (5), (5A) and (6), the Minister shall register a declaration made under this section and thereupon the person making the declaration shall cease to be an Australian citizen.

(5) Where, during a war in which Australia is engaged, a declaration is made under this section by a person who is a national or citizen of a foreign country, the Minister may refuse to register the declaration.

(5A) The Minister shall not register a declaration made under this section if the Minister considers that it would not be in the interests of Australia to do so.

(6) The Minister shall not register a declaration made under this section unless the Minister is satisfied that the person who made the declaration:

(a) is a national or citizen of a foreign country; or

(b) will, if the declaration is registered, become a national or citizen of such a country immediately after the registration.

[Three hours of chaos

Thats nothing!
We arrived at our casualty department at 10.45 sunday morning. My 8 year old had a suspected broken ankle. At 2pm she had an x ray, then another one at 4.30! At 6pm the break was confirmed, but then at least she was allowed a drink and something to eat, as they just stuck a plaster of paris back slab on it (as there was no one availiable to put on a full cast). We had to go back the following friday (1st availiable appointment) to see the consultant, when she finally got her proper cast put on
Guess its just a matter of which postcode you live in as to the standards of treatment recieved

It was free wasn't it? Three hours wait for free treatment for something that was obviously not life threatening. What's the problem? Did she miss an episode of Coronation St?

What do you do PB, scan the newspapers for any bad story related to Perth, extrapolate that to the entire continent and use it in your never ending stream of whinging? Man, you really are a pom - finding fault in everything but not doing anything about it. And people criticise the Aborigines for sitting on their arse and whinging. They've got nothing on you. I bet you get hard when you find these stories. Viagra for whinging poms.

Thanks for posting that PB. I've gained a lot of useful from this forum - and realise I can't dismiss the downsides that people post. However, it's often difficult to get a point of reference for the downsides people post (as they are often 'just' opinions).

But thankfully you occasionally post the kind of information you started this thread with, and I'm able to 'almost' compare like-for-like (Oz to England). Then I'm able to get perspective on how bad the downsides of living in Oz are.

So, 3 hours in the emergency department - so appalling it made the source of the article wonder what had happened to her beautiful country, and you thought it worthy of bringing the attention of this ng to it.

Suddenly, I'm don't seem quite so concerned about the other downsides you've posted.........

If only h garrett was exaggerating.....
