This won't be why they drive in the right lane, I think that's just because of the god awful Australian "No Worries" attitude to any kind of road rules.

 The arrogance in some of these posts leaves me breathless. You guys are wimps. Try driving to work every day here in Bangkok, then tell me if Oz is so bad. You also seem to have very selective memories. Drivers in the UK are not perfect, I've experienced nearly everything described on here whilst driving in the UK.

Driving in Bangkok....you must be insane!

You're right, Bangkok would even make the Place de La Concorde feel like an early morning Sunday drive to the countryside. I can remember a couple of occasions when it took 3 hours to get from the airport to one of the riverside hotels. It was soooooo congested. I remember it got better once they'd built that flyover, but it's still somewhere you'd never catch me driving. Not in a million years. They used to offer helicopter flights from the Shangri-La hotel to the airport. I used to think that it was really extravagant, but if you're just about to miss your flight because of the traffic congestion its actually a small price to pay, and I can see why they offer this service, and why its so popular!

Anyway Soi - you deserve a medal :D :D

:o Actually it isn't as bad as it looks, you just have to adapt to the local 'style' and accept that it isn't going to change because you come from somewhere where the traffic is 'righteous' (halelujah brother :D ). I still get pretty worked up about it, but I have to remind myself that the problem is mine not theirs. The locals have a pretty frustrating way of making the traffic worse than it has to be - ever tried to overtake a large elephant in peak hour traffic?

Aussie drivers are angels in comparison. When I go home and hear people complain about the traffic in Perth I have to laugh... they have no idea!

Driving in Bangkok is scary alright!
Maybe we should have a poll to show which countries are bad to good and I am sure UK/Oz would be very far down the list.
Personally, I have found driving in Moscow and Delhi to be far worse than Bangkok. Ho Chi Minh too dodging the bikes!
Mind you, I do find driving in Brisbane a cinch and much more polite drivers than London where I have done most of my driving.

My top four nightmares would be Delhi, Bangkok, Gangzhou, and Naples. But I'm sure there are worse.
