webcams
I am planning to setup a Web Cam on my Parents Computer before we go to Aus, so they will be able to see and talk to the Grand Kids over the Internet.
We will both be using Broadband connections, so hopefully will get a good quality picture.
Just wondered if anyone else was using web cams to keep in touch from Aus and if it worked OK?

Re: webcams
I used one to talk to the other half while she was in Oz. They really are fantastic, all be it with a slight time delay. I used it through MSN Messenger....very easy to set up

Re: webcams
I have set one up already and can talk with mum while still in the UK and with some forum members too. I do find audio doesn't work so people recommend Skype (free) to do the audio at the same time.

We have Broadband in the UK and they have a dial up connection in Perth. Like the others said there is that small delay but you get this on the phone line anyway.
Also, if kids are going to use it you need to train them in the art of sitting still ! ! !

Agree with what evryone else has quoted you on this, but just wanted to make sure you have enough memory to run Webcam. Minimum is 512K.

Get a Logitech with an inbuilt mic and usb. check out e-buyer.com .
We also have broadband here and they have dial-up in Oz. We use Paltalk (free) for just leaving messages, and some other prog I can`t remember what it`s called atm for voice/video.
