Web site set up
I am thinking of setting up a web site, can sort the webspace, no drama there.
But how do you go from there? Is it straight forward or a minefield?
Any advice apreciated

It's easy, knock up a website and upload it onto your domain space, make sure the first page is an index page, and you'll be all set...
There's loads of webbies around so you might get more specific help for any questions posting in the lounge...there's Rincewind and Webbie amongst loads of others that do web stuff....

Dreamweaver is a good package even for a novice but is a bit expensive if you are just doing it for fun.
People do get a bit carried away with things and throw in loads on animations, pictures that are too big and take ages to load and theres just too much going on etc etc etc.
People generally make up their minds within the first few seconds of visiting a website. If it looks crap they will simply go elsewhere.
I would recommend that you look around and find a site that you like and then do something similar.
I would also say go to your local library and gets some 'Noddy' guides from there rather than spending too much on books etc.
You will enjoy doing it as the results are obvious and instant but the time will fly by!
Anyways, good luck with it.

Though the red on blue text with a sky background makes for double vision...and a smaller pic for the main page, 450 kb would be a bit slow if family are on dial up...I've sent a email with a resized pic...don't mean to be rude, and it is a great idea for friends and family

Have a look at http://www.wunderground.com/geo/Bann...ons/94610.html
for some good, and free, time and weather banners to go on web sites.
Just click on the one you like, and it creates the htm code for you to add into your page.
eg:
<a href="http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/94610.html">
<img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/banner/gizmotimetempbig_metric/language/www/global/stations/94610.gif"
alt="Click for Perth, Western Australia Forecast" height=40 width=467></a>
will give you :-

Just looked at your website and its coming along nicely. Hope you dont mind but if you do the following it will make a nicer looking finish.
If you add the following code into each of your pages it will bring both the text and images away from the edge of the screen and just makes it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye!
Basically all the code you have is between:
<body>
Your website stuff etc...
</body>
If you add the following 'Blockquote' it will bring everything away from the edge:
<body>
<blockquote>
Your website stuff etc...
</blockquote>
</body>
This is just a quick and simple way to do something without having to know too much!
