Weather in Melbourne
Hello there,
We're planning on moving out to Melbourne this year, but are a little unsure about the climate. We've lived south of Sydney for 3 months and didn't like the hot & humid weather. We're now thinking about Melbourne but everyone we met in NSW told us how awful the weather is down there and that we might as well stay in the UK. Obviously, we're moving out there for the outdoor lifestyle. Is it really that bad as Australians AND British expats from other states make it out to be??? Any info would be VERY much appreciated!!!

At the moment it's the middle of autumn and the days are ranging between approx 20 - 25 degrees. In winter it will be colder, possibly down to 10 degrees but absolutely nothing like the uk weather. I really love still having the seasons here. Even when it's cooler the sky is usually really blue and the sun shining. Not cloudy and grey all the time.
Good luck!

Come visit us at Britvics for more info (the site Furkew quotes).
We moved from Horsham (as you will have guessed) and have no intention of going back, despite how lovely Horsham is.

We are also looking to come to Melbourne and have been told that it is similar to the med temperature wise and that it is one of the favourite choices for European immigrants. Not sure how true.
Can't wait to get there - although probably have to contain myself and suffer another British Winter.
Am only at skills assessment stage so still a long way to go.
Have been looking at places to live in Melbourne area and noticed a past thread recommended Point Cook - anyone live there and how is it for kids? We have 3 ages 11, 9 & 7 (Girl / Boy / Girl).
We put our house up for sale 4 weeks ago and it sold within 2 days first buyer, full asking price, cash buyer should be complete in 4 weeks (OMG!!!). Hope we make it to OZ or we'll be homeless. Planning to rent for the next few months in UK.
How's that for a leap of faith????

Hi, we are also hoping to migrate to Melbourne later in the year and after spending 6-wks last year in Melbourne we loved both the city, lifestyle and climate and especially the activities for the kids. I've just taken a look on the bbc weather page for melbourne for the easter break.. It looks lovely with glorious sunshine expected and temps from 21 - 29.. very nice... not bad for autumn...

*Mythbusters brought to you by Badge*
It's true that Melbourne gets less winter sun than Sydney - I've lived in both - but a lot more than London.
The UK has only just managed to string together a week of mid 30s once or twice ever since records began and they were in the last 5 years. Melbourne has been doing it for hundreds of years.
Spring and Autumn bring comfortable temps for sport, leisure, living with no humidity.
Winter is 'cold', but brief. You'll need to defrost your windscreen a few times a year - unless you are in an weather zone which really is cold - and even then you can often do it with your hand, not a credit card or kettle.
People often move to the South of France for the weather don't they? I bet it gets 'cold' there in winter.

No I havent been to Tasmania, but its definitely on my list of places to visit, but its not the same weather as Melbourne is it. Its a bit further south, generally higher ground, so temperatures are lower.
I was just using it as an example of places that are cooler/colder than Melbourne.
