The weather in Melbourne
is fantastic (I think).
It often starts cold - I've even had the heater on in the ute on an early start, by midday the sun is peaking out of the clouds and by late arvo it is nigh on 25 plus. With very little humidity. It is then agreeably cool at nights.
It's actually very pleasant. I'm surprised as I was quite worried that this weather pattern would be a worry. (I was really unsure).
As for winter, I do cold weather, it's perma-grey I don't do. The grey skies in Australia aren't too bad as often you still need sunnies.

I've been watching the tennis for the last 9 days from Melbourne. First week hot and sunny with one day up to 37, this week 'cool' the commentators are saying (low 20's) and this evening there were a few spots of rain.
Bad day yesterday - Phillippoussis beaten (unexpected) and Hewitt beaten (half expected as he was playing Federer). Not a good Australia Day!
Melbourne was on a BBC Holiday program last evening and the segment was absolutely diabolical - Fed square and a few back alleys is what they showed.

Then, surprise, surprise they had to whinge on about the weather.....it's all getting a bit tiresome now.
As soon as we tell anyone we are going to Melbourne the first thing they say is. "Ooooo, it rains there you know!"
Most of the time my reply is "yes, and your point is????!!!"

Indeed OzTennis I also watched that. All excited that they would be showing lots of intersting things, but we were left wanting!

The weather, yep, Welsh family in Patterson Lakes, first 2 months
there no rain, it rains on the day of their barbecue, out comes the cliches - less than 25 inches rainfall on average with well under that of late due to the drought.

Here's a quick summary:
- 3 days were hotter that 40C; 2 in January and 1 in December 03
- 35 days were hotter than 30C; all in Jan, Feb, Mar then Nov and Dec
- Depending on what you would call cold - say 16C: only 83 days were colder than this in 2003
- As for rain: there were 136 wet days in 03, with only 88 getting more than 1mm in 24 hours
- This means there were 229 completely dry days.
Generally cold and wet most of the year, doesn't sound like it to me!
I think I'll crawl away and get a life now.

Sad I know, but I was in the process of getting fed up with people in Melbourne complaining about the cold and wet, when we are hoping to move there this year. So I did a bit of digging on the bom.gov.au website and found data for temperature and rainfall for every single day in 2003.

They tried to cover far too much in 30 mins: the Kakadoo (?spelling) looked like it needed a whole 30 mins to itself. And aren't those presenters, the silly music & the whole trivial approach really annoying?
I loved the bit where all those kids were rolling down the dunes, though - looked huge fun!
Mr A commented that you probably don't get many yellow Renault Megane convertibles around in Victoria (sad, but no norks for him to look at in this episode )
