Are we suited?
Hi guys
We are thinking of selling up and moving to brisbane possibly next year.
Before we start laying out money for agents etc we were wondering what sort of people adapt better to living in australia than others?
We are a married couple with 3 girls aged 3,5 and 9.
I enjoy we enjoy fishing(freshwater), nature, eating out and quiet evenings in.
Would not class ourselves as party animals(at least not any more!)
and are interested in making friends with the locals.
Are the locals ok or is there any form of discrimination?
If you are a real grafter is there the opportunities to make good money out there in the construction trade (roof tiling/slating)?
Do you think this may be the kind of place that holds a future for us as we really are sick of the uk with bills and the labour government getting us down.
any info greatly appriciated

Bills and politics are the same worldwide. Your bills will be very similar.
Real grafters are popular, you need to be prepared to graft hard in this climate, no slate roofs tho, lots of colourbond, some roof tiles.
People who adapt better are usually not close to extended family, for obvious reasons such as cost of trips back to UK
Some racism, but generally not on a day to day basis.

Re: Are we suited?
I would agree with what has already been said. You need to have the right "mind set" before even coming over. If you are very close to family then you could struggle but coming over when the kids are still young is the time to do it. As they get older they will have made friends and be into their education and will not want to move and leave everything they know behind. If you have a gut feeling that this is the right move for you then and want a different lifestyle to the one you have now then go for it. We have never had any doubts and we love it here. The kids hardly ever mention the UK and have adapted to the aussie way of life very quickly. Good luck.
