Are we the only one's

Who are waiting for our visa's before putting our place on the market ?

Most people seem to have theirs up already, hubby wants to make ours like a show home before anyone comes to value at the end of July ?

Fingers crossed it shouldn't take too long but then we are in with the mother in law with no cable TV oh I will miss living TV especially most haunted

Anyone else waiting ?

We are doing the same Carrie.
My husband is raring to go but I said I will not put the house on the market until that Visa is in my hand! or at least the letter saying we have got it!
We are also spending time 'house doctoring' our house and will probably put it on the market at the end of this month or early JUly. The trouble is what do you do if you sell it quickly etc We might have to go into rented for a couple of months as I don't want to leave before Xmas.
I am already worrying about what will happen timescale wise.

Hi Carianne

Yes we are waiting still -long way to go yet. Only applied for TRA 1 month ago. We were initially thinking of renting the house out in case we come back (doubt it - but you never know), but have been told of the Capital Gains Tax. Looking into it but if we do decide to sell then I imagine it will be when we get the visa's (fingers crossed we do get them!). How far along are you? Problem is housing has slowed down so much the last couple of months, when we do decide to sell it could be 6 months or more before house goes. Different kettle of fish few months back, well in our area anyway. Good Luck with yours....

Hi stupid (you asked for it )
I may be mistaken but i think you have 12 months to validate your visa's. This time begins when your meds and police checks are requested. this means that if your meds &pc's take 2 mths then you have 10 mths to validate .............i think

We are waiting until our visa's are in our hand, nothing is certain until that point.

r.bartlett Jun 3rd 2003 7:42 am

pretty much my understanding

it's the actual date on the medicals/police checks (whichever was done first) when the one year clock starts to tick

some people front load etc so they will have less time depending upon how fast dimia processes their application..

cheers

You have one year to validate from the earlier of the two items (police check and medical).

If you had the police check in Feb 2003 and your medical in Oct 2003, you would have to be in by Feb 2004 (or just do a validation trip and come back, but thats more complicated to explain).

We are waiting for our visa to be granted (fingers crossed) before we sell and then plan to move in with the inlaws to save as mush as poss. We haven't told them yet, we're going on holiday with them next week, I shall work on them then I'll ply them with lots of booze and maybe even get them to put it in writing - just incase they change their minds.

With the visa within our sights now we are really wishing we had put the house up for sale earlier.
We have been waiting for the bloody thing for so long and now it looks like the slowing down of the housing market may hold us up even longer:mad:
If you are going to stay put if you don't get the visa, then i suppose you may as well not sell. We decided a while ago this would not be an option for us as it would feel too much of a let down to be stuck in the same place after all that expectation!
Swings and roundabouts i guess:rolleyes:

We will wait until we have visa houses are dropping here so we need to be careful. We can always validate first.

Not stressing too much

Re: Are we the only one's

We are going to wait until we have the request for $100,000 bond then put the house up for sale. With house prices expected to drop its really hard to know what to do.
Its gonna be hard to keep the house clean with three boys aged 5 and under for the viewings.... wipe the chocolate (or worse!) off the wall...quick squirt of air freshener and down the park!

:p

Re: Are we the only one's

Personally, I think you've all got the right idea waiting for the visas. Despite the fact that our house is taking much longer to sell than we anticipated, and despite the fact that I've ranted many times about wishing we'd put it on sooner, the truth is that if I had my time over again, as they say, I would probably still wait, and not do anything different. The bottom line is, unless you're wanting to move anyway, it's just too much of a risk, even if you're certain you'll eventually get it. Do you really want that much stress?

Andy
