Default We are losing the caring and sharing

This is a run down on of what this land of plenty has become and where its heading.
If you even dreamed of a fair go bollocks forget it.

Australians must take greater responsibility for their health through private health insurance while public hospitals and Medicare are run down.

They must prepare for their own retirement through superannuation, amid threats about tomorrow's pension even though most of today's pre-retirees never had the time to save enough. They must pay their children's university costs through upfront fees, if they can, when their grades aren't good enough.

Unemployed people - not the labour market - are seen as deficient and in need of help to improve their attitude, and job-searching skills.

The responsibility for being unemployed has been placed on the shoulders of individuals even though full-time jobs have hardly increased, and have decreased for the low-skilled over the past 15 years.

It speeds us towards a time when rich kids will sideline brighter aspirants from university because their parents can afford to pay full fees. The rich have already fled the underfunded public school system.

There is nothing more basic and important to a country's sense of itself as fair and egalitarian than its education and health-care systems .

People are getting a bit more money in their pocket. But it brings added risks. They can only hope it is enough to get by in user-pays Australia.

Be careful Pookin.......

You try and take Pommie Bastard on at his own game (i.e. cut and paste) and there's only gonna be one winner (he's been at it for years)......

Actually they are hyperlinks!

Not out to win, young_lad, just adding a different perspective. Australia doesn't have the monopoly on such problems.

Your concern is touching!

PB, the village idiot, is waffling again...
Most of these things are good, you obviously want to live in a nanny state and this does'nt surprise me at all.

Health Care.
Everybody should take more financial responsibility for their own health. I pay for private medical insurance for my family. What pissess me off is that I still have to pay tax as if I use the NHS.

Pensions.
Each individual should sort out their own pension, although I think they are a waste of time anyway. Put your money into property, its a better investment.

Education.
Kids can 'work' their way through uni to pay for living expenses. Parents can start their own fund when their kids are young to pay for fees. Scholarships should be available to high flyers.

Unemployed People.
Yes they generally are deficent, thats why the buggers are unemployed. God I hate dole bludgers. If you can't get full time then get a couple of part time jobs. If you are not skilled then train.

I realise what I've said may be unpopular, but I don't care. I'm a great believer in self reliance.

Good for you self help is the Aussie way fancy pulling out a few brats?
You have been looked after by the social system in the Uk what the bugger do you know?

PLANS to close some of the State's maternity services are a step closer, despite opposition from midwives and community groups.

King Edward Memorial Hospital gynaecologist and obstetrician Harry Cohen, chairman of the working group that produced the Statewide obstetrics services review report released in April, said yesterday he had received about 100 submissions to the report.

Think British Media , no too hard never mind you will love the pay up or bugger off health care here plus more tax and less benefits.

I believe if the state taxes high it should not double charge for services it has already charged for , which is the Aussie way.

Despite being a half witted also ran, you have made a valid point here. Taxes should be not have a double charging effect, which is especially the case in health care, both here and in Aus.

Sorry, but you are off the mark here. Apart from the GP question, the rest of the answers are 'maybe, but probably not!' You're out of date pal.
