We just bought our first car
Yep, The Rossers will be mobile as of Tuesday next week (saves us having to use Dads car all the time).
As we haven't sold our house in the UK yet we have had to go for the cheaper option, we will be the 'proud' owners of a 1990 Ford Falcon II EA. 3.9 V6 with 4 speed Auto and most importantly AIR CON.
But it is now sinking in how the grabbing hand that prevails in Australian life is out to get us too. When we buy the car we will have to pay stamp duty on it (yep everytime the same car gets sold there's stamp duty to pay, 3% of it's value), as well as the registration transfer.
The bit that got me was the insurance. Fully comprehensive in the UK negates the need for 3rd party fire and theft. Not in N.S.W. - no, here (so I'm lead to believe) you have to have CPT (compulsary third party, or green slip) but you can choose to pay to have comprehensive as well !!!:scared:

Enjoy terrorising the aussie drivers with your pom driving skills...
The compulsory third party is of course taken into account in the premium of your fully-comp cover, ie your fully comp you'll find a heck of a lot cheaper than the UK 'fully comp' policy.
Comp third party is supposed to stop the bludgers getting in cars and bashing the car of a 'battler' without being able to pay compo
