Angry calling experienced expats!!

Just wanted to know for the experienced peeps out there who have made it to NZ! Are we doing things in the right way? is there a right way?
My hubby is an electrical maintenance engineer in the food industry and he has applied for his provisional license (Aprox 2 weeks ago) to be able to work (supervised) in NZ, he is flying over to NZ in March for 2 weeks armed with relevant documents to support him to look for prospective employment possibly a job offer. We then hope to apply to NZIs we now have all the forms, and put our house on the market.
I know i'll probably have missed some vital info. and we are aware it won't happen over night, but have you any ideas and tips on the best methods for residency.

Thanks
Lorna
