Are We Being Sensible
Can you please reply if you have failed to find a matching vocation on the SOL but have still been successful gaining a visa.
I am currently trying to fit my skills in to Supply and Distribution Manager (60), and Admin manager (40). My problem now is that the Supply and Distribution requires prove of some skills I have'nt had, and the Admin manager requires certificated examination passes and gives no opportunity to provide working experience. I cannot do anything until I have established a match on the SOL, I have been advised by an agent that it is doubtful that I will be successful after viewing my CV but will, for a fee, look in to this matter in more detail. I would really like to hear from those that have overcome this problem. Regards Paul |

Re: Are We Being Sensible
OK, I went through AIM and failed the first time, had to wait 2 years to get more experience at the level I achieved. They really are assessing you as a 'Manager' and that manager needs to have a diverse range of role reporting into it, not just supply and distribution. eg I had account mgt, marketing, development and finance reporting into me. You need 5 years experience at that level, although they gave me 1 year for my post grad Diploma in Marketing.
They are quite strict I think, so you better have some good job profiles and organisation charts. Its not an easy route but feel ok to ring or email the lady at AIM for advice as I found her helpful albeit 3 years ago! http://www.aim.com.au/migration/index.htm Good Luck and let me know if you want help if you go this route. Re: Are We Being Sensible
Thanks Mash, I have emailed AIM with my current status and based on your info it my not be good news.
I think I really need to get as many points as possible as we may not get a go at Oz with points from an Admin Manager (40). By the time this is over I'm going to need a therapy session with a 60 point shrink. Wilf
Thanks for your honesty, I don't hold out much hope of meeting the points criteria. I am now becoming more and more resigned to putting in 40 point score and waiting to see whether I anything comes up. Just out of interest, are you over here or over there. Regards Paul |

Regards Paul All I will say mate is don't take the job lists as a good indication of what is available. People think I am taking the piss, but most of Oz is still the kingdom of the tradesman so if you are in one of those then great (I was when I came over and it was good) but if you ain't then you have GOT to be careful. Don't think that agency websites mean there are loads of jobs - a lot of them are made up - and as you higher up the jobs scale, they get much, much harder to get because, at the end of the day, they prefer Ozzies. |
