Default Water Restriction in Redlands

Our Water has been Restricted !!

19jun04 Courier Mail

REDLAND Shire is facing a water crisis after a fire shut down the region's main water treatment plant at North Stradbroke Island.

With only one treatment plant in operation this weekend, authorities fear there may not be enough water to meet demand in the booming shire.

Last night the council issued an urgent plea for the area's 125,000 residents to cut consumption, saying immediate bans and rolling shutdowns could be introduced as early as today to stop some areas running dry.

"This is serious," council chief executive Susan Rankin said yesterday. "If consumption doesn't drop immediately we will consider immediately banning all use of water externally and if that doesn't work we may have to consider load shedding of water."
