Default Water rates

Just received our water rates for the coming year, wasn't really expecting it to be honest, thought you just got a bill every quarter with your usage/service costs

$863 plus usage costs on top, seems a bit steep to me

Think this is just service charge for water and sewerage, guess I'll have usage on top of this

I think you will find the annual service bill broken down as follows (Sample figures, depending on your property rating) ...
Water Residential - $200
Sewerage Residential - $524
Drainage Residential - $ 67

For a total of annual service charges of approx $800

Your water usage bill should come separately, twice a year ?
The attached examples should help.

When you bought your house did your settlement agent not explain that to you?

Are all houses on a water meter? or do you pay a flat usage rate per month?

Here in my area of Perth you pay water rates per year, mine came today too. You then also pay usage during the year which is every 6 months. I think I pay a couple of hundred dollars a year for that.

On settlement you usually have to pay the remainder of the years shire rates and water rates to your settlement agent. The itemisation on settlement would/should have had these payments on. You can pay quarterly, you pay about $10 interest but it helps spread the load. Shire rates will come soon too so expect a $1000+ for that too.

Elvis is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Water rates

We got ours on Tuesday $1055!!! This is just the rates the water usage is billed half yearly.
Watch out for the shire rates they are due to come out next month. Last year we paid $1945!!!
Very expensive time of year unless you get a good tax refund.

At first it does seem like you're paying a hefty amount for water, but the standard annual water rate is only about $200. The large majority of the bill that you've received is actually for annual sewerage costs, for which there are no further charges for during the year.

Ours was $200 for water and $800 for sewerage.
