THE WATER - drinking?

Hello,

Im not in the UK at the moment! (god I say that a lot on here!Sorry)

Anyway we use bottle water over here. Which we go through a ton of the stuff as its hotter in the summer than the UK.

Well can you drink Australian tap water? If so is it ok, or bloomin awful taste?
Do people use one of those filter jugs, or just drink it straight from the tap?

PS, another daft question.

Public toilets - do you pay in Australia?
Over here you cant have a pee without parting with your cash!

Ive got kids so it can get a pain carrying around plenty of coins on a day out.

Yes.

Depends on where you are. Adelaide water is rubbish, Melbourne water is OK, and Perth water isn't too bad either. The best (IMHO) is Tassie water, which is just beautiful.

Both - depending on where they live.

No, you don't pay.

The barbecues in public parks are free as well.

:)

Tap water is fine in Queensland. As to paying to use the toilet, OZ doesn't seem to be the rip off place the UK is (apart from taxes, registrations etc). Here on the Sunshine Coast we do not have to pay to park the car, use public toilets, use public barbecues or anything else like that. I personally would rather pay higher taxes and get decent public services.

We have pure rainwater to drink, which runs off our roof into a tank & goes through filters when you turn the tap on. Prefer it to tap (mains) water now.
No choice though, as no mains water where we live.

Hmmm at bottled water! Do you realise how bad for the environment it is? :sneaky:

Australian water is fine, just as it is in the UK.

Perth water is not that great IMO and I believe Adelaide's water is liquid mud. Not sure about the rest of the country.

Adelaide water is fine and definitely not liquid mud :)

I do prefer it after it'd been in the fridge first though. :D

We keep bottles of tap water in the fridge. I don't mind the taste of the tap water, though my sister thinks it tastes muddy. I normally find when I move to a new place it takes a few days to get used to the taste of the water, after that I don't notice it.

The water quality standards are not as good in Oz as they are in the UK but most of it is ok, a lot of people I know use a brita filter as this has carbon and removes some of the impurities. I have rain water tanks as we have no water supply and I drink it.

It does need to be chilled before drinking.

Otherwise you have to cut it up and hand it out in slices.

LOL, are you kidding? I take it you haven't tasted Tassie water...

The stuff we get in the West Midlands is practically liquid gravel! Limescale was virtually unheard of where I lived in Australia; over here it seems to be inescapable.

Last year I removed a fist-sized lump of rock-hard limescale from the kitchen drainpipe. Now, I've heard of "mineral water", but that's ridiculous.

Our water is fine , we bought a fridge with ice n water dispenser on the front , this is connected via a filter and does taste nicer than straight out of the tap .
The cold water and ice on tap is a godsend in summer

Tassie water is lovely to taste, have to agree, so pure like the air down there. I'm not that partial to the water in Qld, but then its so scarce that drinking it seems a waste, much better to stick to beer and leave the water for other things!
