Default Water Costs

We are moving shortly to our new house, and we are wondering what to expect in the way of a water bill for six months tenancy with average water usage, kids allowing of course
No pool, sprinklers only used twice a week for first three months of tenancy switched off since.

Nor do I....but quite a lot of rentals the owner pays the water bill??? Certainly some round here do. Water bills are normally quarterly, if you haven't had one yet, will you get one at all?

Sorry if I've missed the point.

if you own the house
its not so much the water cost/usage but the 1/4 standing charge which comes in around $240 with usage which was only $12/15 cost
If you rent all you pay is usage if the house is water efficient

We was told on taking the lease on that we would be paying the water bill on leaving the rental after our six months is up, we are under the impression that this is the norm here, don't really want to name the agents.

You lease contract ends when you contract ends, if you are renting you dont need to give water people your name its the owner that does that with hie/her name as with the rates

Thats what we understand is the way it is, but the agreement states we pay for all water during this period of lease?

only water use above a agreed amount ie 70ml per 1/4, unless the house is water efficient then you only pay water use, we rent a house to a family and they only pay water usage

In our experience, the owner pays the rates, which have just been issued by the Water Authority, and the tenant pays the total bill for water usage, unless your lease says otherwise. The property manager normally gives the tenant an invoice for water usage, which the tenant pays to them, not the owner. The PM will deduct the amount from your bond if necessary. A slack PM may not process the invoice in time, leaving the owner with the bill.

The above is correct, and at present it is against law to charge the tennant water standing charges the tennant ONLY pays water consumption, make sure you get the water meter read by your property manager when you move out and get it agreed between you both
