Re: Watch out..are you speeding?
I had a friend who was speeding and was pulled over by the police. She said it was ok to speed in the UK, no surprise she got three points and a fine. What out for the school zones 40Kph only at certain times. New country new laws, expect to have fines and points if you don't abide by them.
I have to admit that driving on the motorways is a lot more chilled out in Aus than the UK, just a little slower. Get a car with cruise control, saves a fortune on fines.

People acclerating from 80 to 100 in the 80 on a totally open road - say progressing through the 80s before they hit the sign are breaking the law, but they are not dangerous.

So don't they always chase you to pull over before issuing every speeding ticket? Do they do it silently also by posting a ticket 3 months after a minor speeding error.. That's quite unjust I would say Ideally they should catch us on spot to show us our mistake

Totally agree on the speeding cameras and bad driving, however the UK is way way worse for speeding detection now with the average speed cameras they use there. If one bastard device was ever invented it is that, and they've no doubt fixed the inability of it to work if you've changed lanes by now. Australia being behind the times in most things is a benefit that in that we don't have these yet.

But in most states here you can't use speed camera detectors - does that make the Australian authorities advanced or scared?

QLD announced them at the start of the year. I believe they will be going live just before Xmas. They have already built one on the Bruce between Bribie Island exit and Cooroy, it's just not active yet.

Yeah but the Aus standard says their supposed to be 0% under-read but up to 10% over-read. That's been in for a while. Could have problems on older cars.
