I have to admit that driving on the motorways is a lot more chilled out in Aus than the UK, just a little slower. Get a car with cruise control, saves a fortune on fines.
Saw an outrageous speed trap on the Sunshine Motorway over the weekend, in a blind dip 100 metres before a speed limit increase sign.

Dangerous driving is one of my pet hates. I despise people who drive irresponsibly. Check out all the skid marks all over the suburban streets from the hoon prats. Check out drunks driving home from the pub.

People acclerating from 80 to 100 in the 80 on a totally open road - say progressing through the 80s before they hit the sign are breaking the law, but they are not dangerous.

So don't they always chase you to pull over before issuing every speeding ticket? Do they do it silently also by posting a ticket 3 months after a minor speeding error.. That's quite unjust I would say Ideally they should catch us on spot to show us our mistake

Totally agree on the speeding cameras and bad driving, however the UK is way way worse for speeding detection now with the average speed cameras they use there. If one bastard device was ever invented it is that, and they've no doubt fixed the inability of it to work if you've changed lanes by now. Australia being behind the times in most things is a benefit that in that we don't have these yet.

But in most states here you can't use speed camera detectors - does that make the Australian authorities advanced or scared?

That would be really unlucky as one would expect there to be some allowance for speedo errors which are up to 10% wrong.

Scared. Imagine the untold millions in fines revenue they would lose.

Then they would have to increase income tax, or some other tax, to compensate for the loss of income.... Then even the non-speeders would end up paying

QLD announced them at the start of the year. I believe they will be going live just before Xmas. They have already built one on the Bruce between Bribie Island exit and Cooroy, it's just not active yet.

Yeah but the Aus standard says their supposed to be 0% under-read but up to 10% over-read. That's been in for a while. Could have problems on older cars.
