Hiya
I have known quite a few familys ship their washing machines over and none have had any problems, so yours should be fine.

Mine's fine, been working happily on Aus power and water and powder for four years now. Kiss of death. If it breaks down now, it's your fault

If it's a new one then bring it - but *don't* forget to immobilise the drum!
If it's more than a couple of years old then flog it and buy a new one here, with its Australian guarantee.

Why flog it?
If it's working bring it!

Re: Washing machines
Because it costs to bring it, it costs to insure it (and insurance won't pay just because and if it doesn't work when you get here) and if white goods last more than about five years you're winning. I wouldn't dream of bringing a five year old machine halfway round the world when I could get a hundred pounds for it and then buy a new, warrantied one in Australia. We got pretty good money for fridge, freezer, washer, dryer and microwave with ads in the local shops and free papers.

It's my observation that when people get to retirement age, a little gene activates which renders them fascinated with warranties on white-goods. My mother is the same - her gene kicked in, in her late 50s. She is of the opinion that the warranty is worth it.

Re: Washing machines
I moved my Hotpoint washing machine from UK to NZ and then from NZ to Aus. We reckon we had about 7/8 years out of it altogether, its just given up a couple of months ago. There isn't nearly as much choice here and there fairly expensive to buy and not many interest free options either. Our new one was about $750.
Well worth bringing anything you can with you in my opinion. We left the UK about 5 years ago and I am still using my old UK microwave, fridge/freezer and watching my UK TV. Helps to keep your dollars where you can and replace items slowly, as required but then we have been on a very tight budget, so its worked for us.
