Washing Detergent
 

Sorry this topic couldn't be more exciting :o but I was wondering if someone coud recommend a safe washing detergent. My two youngest suffer from eczema and I've to be careful with detergents, etc. I used to buy "non-BIO" powder/liquid in Ireland.

I've searched some of the stores but can't find anything similar. Any suggestions/ideas would be great.

OMO do a sensitive powder.

There's a liquid called Purity, that's very good. I can't use powders for the same reason, horrendous eczema, and I used to use the Surcare liquid back home. Somneone gave me the name of Purity on BE years ago and I've used it ever since. :)

Thanks Pollyanna and Northern Bird, can I get Purity at a regular supermarket? Or at a specialist store.

Pollyanna, how has your eczema been since you moved to Australia? Strangely enough, my kids have gotten slightly worse :(. I'm putting it down to the washing powder at the moment - so hopefully it'll get better when I switch to Purity.

Mine had cleared up almost completely until this past winter. Now it's just one little spot on my leg. We use the Omo sensitive and it's fine for me.

yes ,omo matic sensitive and purity softener have been fine for us.

We also use Omo Matic Sensitive. Omo = Persil back in the UK (and maybe in Ireland as well). And the "sensitive" version is the "non-bio" version.

I buy it in Woolworth. Just make sure you pick uo the "Sensitive" because the regular pack is a very similar colour.

Purity is readily available in supermarkets :)
My skin is a bit clearer now, but for the first three years it was worse than ever. Its largely stress related, but I did find that stuff like washing powder which was a problem in the UK was worse here - could be cos it was combined with te climate though. Heat and humidity of the first couple of summers I was in Brisbane were terrible. The last couple of years the summers haven't been so bad, and its improved, but I'm dreading another steamy one.

Going to hijack this thread and ask about eco-friendly detergents - do any of them actually get clothes clean? We've tried a couple and I'm convinced the light-coloured clothes are coming out of the washer looking worse than they went in. Is it because the liquids are dark green? :unsure: I try to do my bit for the environment but I like my clothes to be clean. Is it enough that detergents claim to be bio-degradeable? It would widen my choice quite a bit. (Am a bit new to this - being environmentally aware wasn't easy in Singapore.)

I didn't realise OMO = Persil. We both have sensitive skin too, and can use that. I'm not keen on powders though - wear a lot of black and it seems to show a residue - but they seem to be favoured here? :confused: Maybe I should look for the Purity, too.

Liquids do seem to be the minority choice here - a lot of people veiw them with suspicion when I say I won't use anything else! Took me a long time to convince the Bloke that it wasn't something akin to witchcraft! If you are a black-lover like me though they would definitely give you a better result than powder. Give Purity a go - they do a softener too

hi..i have used liquids for a long time..and as far as i know ..so does my mother, my sister and my closest friend. don't know about anyone else..i don't check their laundries...hehehee:p

i used to use a product called earth choice if memory serves me right. can get it in the supermarket. i would use for my towels, sheets etc...and then
cold power for my clothes...but then i flip around with it sometimes, and will use the omo aswell. i dont' like the powders much either.

I use Am-o-Lin - another one without phosphates or enzymes. Similar to Purity but I prefer it.

Planet ark do AWARE sensitive skin laundry detergent. It lasts simply ages and its awesome.

Yep, I've used that one too, and its good. Generally get Purity now as our nearest supermarket rarely has Am-o-lin
