Default Warning, dangerous grass!

Well it makes a change anyway from the usual spiders and snakes topics! Watch out walking barefoot on the lawns at this time of year, it might be covered in Bindii. It's a rapidly spreading weed which seems to be found on grass everywhere. When the little flowers set seed, they throw up spikes, which stick in your foot, like walking on a bed of cactii. They're easy enough to pull out and can make your feet bleed a little, so not dangerous really, just a real nuisance. Bad luck for the dogs too. Took my puppy for a walk on a nearby reserve today and had to extract about a dozen from his little paws. Will stick to the pavement for a while I think. You can buy weedkiller to treat this stuff, but have to do it in good time, and not when rain is forecast, now is too late. Must make a reminder to get it sorted next year because our front lawn has loads of patches, that and clover.

Not just the Bindii stuff (which is truly awful)...plain old grass seed is bad enough and oh-so-adept at working it's way into your skin. I had to resort to gaiters when walking in the bush...looked like a damn shire horse!

It's a sorry state of affairs when even the grass is out to get you...just another of Australia's 'unique' and 'charming' aspects, along with all those snakes, spiders, sharks, hoons etc
