Everything I've seen of Heathmont is lovely, my daughter did a school extension program at Heathmont primary school which is set in nice grounds and has a lovely atmosphere, there's a local shopping village with two greengrocers, 2 or 3 bakers, a printers, IGA (local small supermarket), pharmacy, milk bar, interior designers and plenty more. It's handy for shopping in Bayswater, Ringwood, Mitcham, Vermont and for the more out of town shopping and industrial shopping like Bunning (DIY), Good Guys (white goods and electricals), Spotlight (furnishings), Bourne (bathrooms).

Despite living only a few minutes away I've never had reason to visit Wantirna but it's pretty good for access especially for Knox and Ringwood.

Personally though I love the village feel of Heathmont - it reminds me of Loughton in Essex or Tettenhall near Wolverhampton if you've ever been to either of them.

There are a couple of rentals available in each suburb right now according to domain.com.au.

As for transport to the City there are trains from Ringwood and Mitcham: It hasn't pasted well but this table should help.

Hi Carolyn

Thanks for all the information you have sent. How long would it take by car to get to the St Kilda Road? Could you also advise on any Secondary Schools in the area (state). My eldest is just taking GCSEs at the moment and will have to do the VCE. We did want a secondary that offered spanish but I dont thin there are any. My youngest should be starting in January at promary - will he settle well do you think. Are there many parks and activities in Heathmont?? Thanks again for the information this is much appreciated.

Thanks x

http://www.domain.com.au/public/subu...arch#mapanchor will give you some statistical information on the area such as the number of kids.

For schools:

Heathmont primary school will obviously be your nearest.

Heathmont College is obviously the most local – a couple of years ago it had 49% girls – so an even split. It sent 34% to uni, 35% to TAFE (trade college) and 31% to work.

Not knowing how academic your eldest is:

Local state alternatives might be:

Ringwood Secondary College www.ringwoodsc.vic.edu.au (55% girls – 60% uni)
Norwood www.norwood.vic.edu.au (mixed – 40% uni)
Bayswater www.bayswatersc.vic.edu.au (mixed - 25% to uni)
Boronia www.bhsc.vic.edu.au
Forest Hill www.fhc.vic.edu.au (50% uni)
Mullauna www.mullauna.vic.edu.au (49.4 uni)
Scoresby www.scoresbysc.vic.edu.au (15% uni)
Vermont www.vermontsc.vic.edu.au (one of the closest and 66% university)
Wantirna www.wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au

Finally you were asking about the trip to St Kilda Road – it’s not pleasant as you have to go down Hoddle Street

From http://www.australianexplorer.com/journey_planner.htm - do not believe this timescale any later in the morning as – traffic lights and heavy traffic can make it very difficult. Also St Kilda road can be very slow (and it’s very long so it does depend where exactly you’re going)

Anyway hope all this helps. The internet really is a wonderful thing.

I’m starting up in business as per my website with accommodation and services like these offered so if you know of anyone who may be interested I’d be grateful if you could pass on my details.

Otherwise good luck with your move and we’ll have coffee when you arrive?

jamesjack;
Wantirna & Heathmont are both fine suburbs to live in, we live in Rowville 10 to 15 mins away from them both.

Heathmont has a railway station so commuting to the city is direct via train. The school of heathmont is OK thats secondary. Wantirna is not as good though its not bad but nothing to write home about especially if your kids are academic, i work down the rd from wantirna at Vermont sec college 3 Km away so i do know what im on about.

renting is expensive house prices like the Uk have gone through the roof.

may i ask when do you intend to migrate to Australia if you like we could always meet you when your here to give you some decent advice.

My mate lives in wantirna he is from sunderland, (we wont hold that against him).
if you P/M i can then supply you with more info especially on the schools in the area, may i ask are you thinking of state school or private, if its the later then they are expensive to be honest.

where are you from in the UK please

if you live in wantirna you are 2 mins drive from Knox City shopping centre have a look on google for Knox city.
