Please explain why I'm a green eyed monster?
I have been to Australia for longer than a week and will be off over there in the near future. They don't live there and nor do I and I have no wish to appear on TV when I go over there, so what on earth are you droning on about? Think you're clutching at straws, nice try 2 out of 10

Good luck to Paul & family I hope it works out for them ;)

No quite connected to the current flow, but on todays WDU in the Bondi flat there was what looked like a Sky remot control on the sofa.

Do any other providers use the same remote or could this just be a ploy to make us all think Sky is mutually available across Oz?

Re: Wanted Down Under

Why are some people getting so hetup about this  its just a television programme, no one is forcing anyone to watch it. Its just a bit of light entertainment about Australia, showing properties and a little bit of the surrounding areas and possible job opportunities. No harm in that:confused: Its not a serious documentary about applying for a visa, and it wasn't advertised as one.

As far as I can remember I think they have Foxtel there which is part of Sky, but I'm sure there are plenty of people to correct me if I'm wrong;)

They don't go to Melbourne. Somewhere (either on the Radio Times web site or maybe in the first programme - can't remember), they said they'd be going to Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, and Queensland.

:) hi all,
well i like the show at least its a little something to give us an idea what it will be like. And anyone with intelligence will realise that its not all going to be as rose tinted as they show.plus we need to consider that every family is different so we all will have different experiences. Its just nice to have a look into what other people make of oz and get a little info in the process.
:D ANYONE who has any experiences of Canberra,ACT and any info I can include in our visa application please e-mail me Thanks

Odd they don't manage to go to Australia's second largest city in 20 programs... did they piss someone from the Melbourne Tourist board off?

 Yes, I can just imagine how the BBC - full of their own importance - asked for a few freebies and didn't get any.

Or maybe, Melbourne is "full" ;) .

Most likely, someone from the BBC sitting at their desk in London looked at a map of Oz, decided that Melbourne and Sydney are kind of next to each other and decided they only needed to visit one of them :sneaky: .

Having doubts as to whether I can do this financially does not mean that I am basing my decision on coming over because of the TV show. What I meant was that some of the houses that I have seen on the show for that price bracket was higher than I had anticipated. My family and I are still taking the plunge I just don't know if we'll have enough money to buy the house that we would like to without me having to work. I hope this is a clearer picture and not too bizarre. ;)

Hi Paul, Yes must agree , enjoyed the program and found some of it informative.. good luck for the near future.

BUT.... Control Engineers realy worth 80 Dollers an hour... .. Funny that as I think i'm classed as a control engeer dealing with all things automation from Computer controlled Houses to CNC machinery plant. PLCs,Motors..ect ect.... wheres these jobs ??? we where off the Brisbane but it sounds like Perth might be a bit better the this sort of job...

That's cool. I think the reality for a lot of immigrants is that Australia is a lot more expensive than they thought. This is not helped by the UK media & Aussies you meet overseas who both portray this Country as a dirt cheap paradise.

We have foxtel here - don't know if it is connected to Sky or not, but all pretty similar - The remote though is identical to the sky remote!

This said when my Aussie Gran comes to visit all she does is moan and whinge about how expensive the UK is! I thought prices more or less the same when out in Aus, well apart from houses (in certain areas) and petrol much of a muchness, oh did find large bags of Revills for around 64p(converted into Uk prices) which was pretty good, god knows why thats been stuck in my head for so long

I have been watching the show very closely over the last few days, and have read many posts. Does anyone know how you can get on the show as a potential candidate?
I have been thinking of moving over there with my husband for some months now and maybe help from a show like this would give the push we need to make our minds up!

I await any positive reponses!
:D

Its already been filmed etc.
You could write to the production company and see if they are doing another series yet, and keep an eye on this forum here - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=74
which often gets requests for people for TV and articles. We get them in this forum quite often but shift them all into the Media forum I've linked to there.

Or maybe a passing troll, just out to wind up?

Loved you "what has it got to do with you" bloody classic, what kind of fool would say something like that about a show on TV. I mean if it had nothing to do with anyone then what would be the point of putting it on the TV? As no one would watch it. But promise just for you I'll miss tomorrow episode, as it'll be a re-run of the first couple of shows! Hope you're happy now dear!

Trust me, he's a troll - amongst other, less savoury things!

Hi All

Just wondering is the bbc going to do a repeat of the programme or has anyone recorded the whole series. we missed the whole series as we have been in australia since dec 27th and we only came back to the uk yesterday march 5

thanks

Re: Wanted Down Under

It is already being repeated , ( like Weakest Link , Eastenders and most of BBC's other regular tosh , for which they're upping the licence fees ) :
record it : around 04.00 mornings , for what it's worth !
Adelaide today , Brissie tomorrow morning , so Nadia can ecstatically amplify the positive only and re-repeat the bleedin' obvious 4-5 times minimum , inside each 45 minutes' episode...
Simplistic escapist "entertainment" would be too much of a praise , methinks...

I've just downloaded them from uknova and only just watched them. All I can say is what a croc! I've just wached the one with the RS teacher that found out on here week here that the food is cheaper so long as you want to buy half a cow and that all her retraining in the UK to be able to emmigrate was worthless as she did relegious studies which isn't taught in QLD!

As I say a big croc, one week here with a BBC team doing all the hard work for you, even lining up jobs, what a laugh. I thought we were stupid coming here and all that befell us, and then I watched the show and realised I'm not so far down the food chain in the neuron dept. as I thought I was.

Oh and they also concluded the shoppping was better here! Clearly didn't need any plumbing or tractor parts!

Sound like you've been having a Jarrod Byrne experience, aka

I only watched a couple of them as I'm at work when they are on and kept forgetting to record them.

I wasn't very impressed with the ones I saw although have downloaded the rest. Just haven't got around to watching the rest yet.

Excellent! Yes life here for me is exactly as portrayed in the letter. When I order bits for my computer business they always take a minimum of 5 days to go 3 hours up the road from Sydney to my place which is actually on the highway. Replace the name nissan with, Jeep, Plumbing shop, Bunnings, Feed shop, Bearing shop, or just about any other shop or service you care to imagine and there you have my life most 'Un-wanted down under'

Re: Wanted Down Under

hi folks,

im also considering a move to oz, and saw this show a couple of times. yeah its not the best show in the world but it does give you a very basic start and knowledge..... although obviously cannot compare to real life experiences!

try as i might for over a month now, i just cant get registered on uknova as they arent accepting signups. im just wondering if anyone that has them downloaded from uknova would be as kind as to put them on disc/s in return for beer tokens??!

many thanks

kevin
