Default Walking the dog in sydney

A friend of mine in sydney said dogs must be on a lead at all times in the whole of sydney..........is this true? There must be areas dogs can run off the lead surely?!?! We're on our way in just 1 week...ahhhh!

There are specific areas where dogs can be walked "off leash" - you can find out where they are from your local council - other than that I think your friend is right. I'm not a dog owner but it's a constant topic of debate in the local paper!

Hi Sally and Rich. Where abouts in Sydney are you heading for?
We do not yet have a dog as we are renting, however, we go to a great place on the Northern Beaches called Bayview where there is not only a designated dog exercise area but also a dog beach. It is a great place to meet other like minded people. All the dogs are off their lead, chasing balls into the water or just generally having a good time. Best of all, when you are leaving there is a mobile "dog washer" who will wash and dry the dog so as not to get your car dirty!

Hi Richard and Linda
Thanks for the info, that sounds great, we'll defintiely make a trip there. We are going to be in serviced apartments for the first month in waterloo (south of the bridge) work is in surry hills so looking to rent around coogee area. The beaches in the south look amasing (on google earth!) hope they do allow dogs too.

Good luck with your move. Sorry, cannot help with Coogee. Bayview is @ 60 mins north of Coogee on a clear run. Nice day out- gets you up to the Northern Beaches
Enjoy

No dogs are allowed on any beaches in this area - but there are designated dog walking areas in both council areas that cover the eastern suburbs beach areas.

Waverley Council - Bondi to Bronte

Randwick Countil - Clovelly to Malabar
