Personally, i would not want to live in Bunbury, or Rockingham area. The houses are reasonabally priced in comparison to Perth suburbs, but you have to ask yourself why??

If you want to live within walkin distance to a beach in Perth, you would be paying a LOT of money. We live one suburb back from the beach, and can drive there in 4 minutes. This suits us. At the end of the day we are a working class family, and we have a lovely house with a pool, and world class beaches less than 5 minutes away.

YES, it can get cold in winter, but not like UK cold. YES, it rains in winter, but if/when you've lived here for a while, you will welcome the winter rain, coz we REALLY need it.

Take what you can from this thread. I think there are some bitter people who have regretted leaving Perth, It is (IMHO) the best place to live in this wonderfull country...especially if you have young children.

I love Brisbane, but I would not want to live there after living in Perth for 8 years.

Once again good luck.......if you make the move it won't be easy for a while, but eventually, it will be worth it.

If you're referring to me being bitter about leaving Perth, you're wrong. I get stir crazy there after a few months now, hence only having stayed there for eight months the last couple of times we've lived there.

We live in Brisbane because we choose to do so, we've come back here from the Middle East because of the quality of life and the weather. My husband's job enables us to live wherever we want because it's all web based. Just means him working odd hours because his consultants are mainly based in the Middle East.

We are all different and want different things, personally I wouldn't live in Perth for any money but I also wouldn't live in Sydney or Melbourne either. If someone loves living in Perth good for them but for me and many others the isolation would be a killer.

Exactly like Ellenbrook, Connolly, Butler, Merriwa, Clarkson, Kinross, Currambine, Tapping, Joondalup and Quinns Rocks north of the river ?

Bunbury is a 2-hour drive from Perth (longer in rush hour I would think) so of course property prices are much cheaper.

Rockingham is 40km from the city and one of the fastest growing areas simply because house prices in the good suburbs with good schools in Perth are way out of the reach of most families. It only takes 35 minutes into the CBD by train so that is another plus. House prices in Perth are a joke.

We had a budget of $500,000 and that didn't even come close to being able to afford a house in the areas we liked in Perth. Different story 40-45km out of the city.

Connolly is a 20+ year old suburb and is certainly not legoland. You cannot compare Tapping and Connolly in any way. In fact Connolly is nothing like any of those suburbs to be honest.

Hi Kips

Sorry if it sounded like I was "having a go" at Rockingham area. I wasn't.

For me, it is just too far away from the CBD, just the same as Butler, or Yanchep.

That's all!!

Good for you Kim.

I didn't mean to come across in that way....sorry. Few beers last night.

I really do like Brisbane, and as I said I'm sure we would have settled there if we had gone there.

But, again after living in Perth for so long, i couldn't live in Brizzy now. I love our WA summers. Our kids are settled here, and we just find it so "easy" to live here. Fabulous beaches and weather to match it.

I really was just trying to offer MY opinion to the OP, who was looking for a more beach/water sport lifestyle.

Sorry, but I don't understand the "isolation" thing.

We live in a BIG city. If we want to go somewhere, we do the same as most people in the world do.....we get on a plane a go there.

We're closer to Bali/Singapore etc, than we are to Sydney. LOADS of opportunities for exciting weekends away.

No worries. It is too far from the CBD but can't persuade my hubby to move closer to Perth and live in an older or smaller property as he wants to build a new house on a big block with a swimming pool. Already bought the land.

Doesn't help that all our friends live in places like Stirling, Iluka and Fremantle and they don't want to travel to Baldivis so we end up meeting in Perth/Fremantle.

Our friends in Stirling put us up for the night if we meet for dinner or a party in Perth so both of us can relax with a drink or two.

Living in Baldivis is a compromise for me.

We considered buying land close to the ocean at Seascapes in Halls Head and Yanchep but decided both were too far out and Yanchep has no train line.

Re: WA V QLD

That's exactly what we did Kips.

We downsized from our brand new 300m2 house in the outer suburbs to a house half the size (bigger block though) closer to perth, in an older suburb.

We have no regrets whatsoever, despite most of our friends thinking that we were mad.

After 3 years and countless weekends of hard work, we have the place nearly finished now. :-)

Good friends of ours are in Golden Bay, and are "living the dream" I can see the appeal. He works local and she takes the train to CBD every day. HUGE house, and all the trimmings to go with it. But they just live so damn far away from us...........LOL
