WA Renting & Tenancy Databases

Hi All

I was under the understanding that the National Tenants Database and its like were just used by Property Agents to record bad tenants, defaulting rent, damaging property etc. But it has recently been suggested to me that they also record all your rental history (good & bad) so agents can see your past addresses and landlords etc.

I'm interested from a WA perspective if anyone can tell me for certain whether this is the case or not?

I've tried hard to google and its just not clear!

Thanks in advance

Bernie

Western Australia use the TICA database to record general tenancy details not just problem cases or defaults. I recently ran a search on someone who appeared for a rental in Perth. There wasn't a problem, they were just recorded as having a tenancy. When I checked with a WA agent, this is how the database was used there. I doubt it will be comprehensive but my understanding is that your info is correct.

Hi Scotty1

Cheers for that. Can you recall if the general tenancy details included the agent or landlord details?

It defo included the agent details - ie the company that posted the information in the first place as I had to contact them.
It included the address but not the landlord.
The tenant had no idea that the info had been recorded.
In NSW this database is only used for disputes and problems.
