Volcano Crisis...anyone planning the 'long route' to Oz?

Been stuck in the UK since Thursday the 1st day it started..flight cancelled..rebooked next available Monday ...Cancelled again and rebooked for Thursday...:fingerscrossed:

However with latest forecast suggesting any flights resuming tommorrow will be short lived is anyone planning on making the journey to Madrid or Rome and flying to Australia from there? ....or does anyone have any better ideas how to get home?

My airline arnt giving any priority to those waiting the longest so it will just be a matter of luck if any rebooked flights manage to make it out on time before the volcano starts up again.....

Hows this:

Drive overland to Singapore:

UK-France-Germany-Austra-Hungary-Romania-Bulgaria-Turkey-Iran-Pakistan-India-Bangladesh-Myanmar-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore

Then look for a flight to Australia! (or if you're really hardcore - get a ferry to Indonesia all the way to Bali and try and find a boat to Darwin..)

the rest - is easy! :p

What about going via the US? Is it more likely that flights heading into the west will be back up sooner than those heading east?

you only need to get out of europe in order to get a flight. if you can get to spain you might get a flight as well.

Hi there Speargun

What about this http://www.seat61.com/Trans-Siberian.htm#Fares i once did a comparison on cost and it worked out pretty reasonable, although because theres no flights to moscow it might cost you a few quid more. Just imagine your own cabin for six days and all the vodka you can consume!
