Default Visually impaired?

OH only has correctable vision in one eye (wears glasses) - practically blind in the other. He is quite concerned he won't be able to drive in OZ. He has a full drivers licence in UK. He has read on the Queensland gov website that there are strict eyesight requirements for obtaining a drivers licence. Does anyone know if the requirement is stricter than that of the UK?

When I went for my Qld licence, I didn't have to do an eye test, just had to mention on the application form that I need to wear glasses for driving, and this is endorsed on your licence.

Thanks for that. Hoping that was the case. Life would be very difficult in OZ if OH couldn't drive. I much prefer being chauffeured about.

Didn't do an eye test, read card or anything of that nature and neither did o/h. Don't worry. You should be ok.

Unfortunately it is now law that an individual MUST disclose any physical or mental disabilities that may impair the safe operation of a motor vehicle in Qld. You are liable to be fined up to $4500 for non-declaration if caught. This is regardless of whether or not you take and pass an eye test or not.
Sorry.

PS afterthought. If you can get a specialist to examine and sign off, it may assist him in getting a limited licence. If you like I could PM you the name of a good eye specialist in Brisbane, but you may need a refferal by your GP.

They didn't check eyesight when I got my licence in Queensland. I put down that I wear contact lenses/glasses and my licence just stipulates that I have to wear them when driving.
