Or should I say visitors from hell!!!
We have our first visitors staying over the Xmas period and OMG, they have been here a week and we have done nothing but clean up after them and their 2 devil children.:curse: I really cannot believe how some people can be so disrespectful to other people's homes. We have stayed in a lot of hotels and have never treat the staff or the hotel the way they are treating us and our home. My 19 year old daughter says the same and my poor OH was so looking forward to having a well earned break and he is going back to work tomorrow to get away from it all.:curse::curse:
They don't go back until the 2nd Jan, any advice on this would be much appreciated. I feel like telling them that if they want to treat my home like a hotel, then they should go and find one, but just can't bring myself to say it.

You need to give them a copy of 'Rules for guests' and then leave them to it.
If they're leaving their crap everywhere, get a basket or a box and load it up, and pop it back in their room.
If they're expecting you to cook every night, ask them what they'd like to cook for dinner tonight and if they need a lift to the supermarket...
Just stop doing stuff for them and tell them to pull their weight....
If they're friends, they'll take it fine. I can't see you being friendly with them after this if you don't say something....
My parents came and stayed for 3 months right in the middle of relationship probs for me and my oh.
For the first couple of days they 'expected' a 'proper' breakfast and whined about porridge..
'Do you actually have porrige in Australia? I have to have porridge. It doesn't feel right without it...'
'Sure we do. Just pick some up when you're in Coles next.'
I gave them their 'proper' breakfast and as soon as they were over the jet lag, I told them 'Make yourselves at home, feel free to make your own breakfast... don't wait for us or you'll starve' etc in as bright a voice as I could muster...
They soon got the message.

2) Put up a 'Hotel' sign and leave chocolates on their pillows
3) Have really loud sex with the bedroom door wide open, or pretend to
4) Get your 19 year old to fake drug abuse, a few needles, that sort of thing
5) Leave porno mags on the table

i have had a house full of visitors from UK and also from UK now living in other bits of Oz....it's interesting and i just try and let it all go over my head.....i am here with them now so better go and "entertain" merry chrsitmas...

If I didn't go round cleaning up after them the place would be like a pig stye.
In just over 1 week all the bedding on their bed has had to be washed twice, had to clean a coffee stain on the cream bedroom carpet. I have asked them not to eat or drink in the bedroom but anything I say seems to fall on deaf ears. They are getting pissed every night and let their kids do what they like
(7 & 2) Most of the walls will need repainted after they leave and the house is just over 12months old. The kids have been walking about with ice lollies and when told to get outside with them as we don't allow them, was told by her that "No, I don't allow them in my house either, but they are on holiday" and she was told this is our home and we don't allow it. I don't think she listens to a word we say.
Just wish that I could be a bit hard and tell them to F**K off.
And the best of it is, they are not like this in their own house. Their house is immaculate.
Thanks for listening, it makes me feel a bit better being able to vent my frustrations and if I was to tell you everything, I would be writing a book, as this is only the tip of the ice-berg.

I think many of us have been there, and at the moment we have had "guests" for some months non stop.
By guest I mean tossers who think that they are on holiday so have no respect for your home, the bills or that you have a life and dont spend every waking hour contemplating how to entertain them/cook/clean or generally revolve your existence round them.
We've tried the rules thing, we've tried the speaking straight thing and pretty much as of the New Year we're now doing the "no your cant come and stay" thing to our visitors.
No consolation at all to you I realise, but at least you can have some mutual recognition of the pain your in.

If I were you I'd ask them to leave and find hotel accommodation because you're obviously unhappy.
They might be on holiday but they're in your home.
I'd have a sit down and explain just how much work they're causing and ask them to either pull their fingers out or to find alternative accom, before you have no friendship left.

energy being nice to people who aren´t nice to you
You must be a nice person trying to resolve this, but it´s
your life, and this is eating up your energy. I can´t tell
you what to do, but I hope you find a way to get those
´friends´ back in line again.
Just remember, if you tell them to behave, clean, cook etc.
the floor won´t open underneath you
and maybe they´ll
get angry, but as other´s have said...maybe if they do get

I have to say that I have found it easy to be quite blunt in house rules and that is before I have moved.
'Friends' that havent really been friends, I have told them they are welcome to stay perhaps one or two nights and they will have to find a guest house as we will be living/working normal lives and cannot/will not be used for a guest house.
One girls said 'even if you have a one bedroom place I can crash on the floor for a few months' - soon put her right on that one.
There are very few people that I would allow to stay for a month - my best friend Erica and my Dad.
Even my family said that they would prefer to rent an apartment so they could do their own thing.
Mr PP has his sister staying at the moment and he very politely said to her that he will not change his routine for her and that she has to fit in. She is only here a week, I was shocked he laid down rules for a week.
Turns out he needn't have, she is very easy going, good company and a nice house guest.
But it does show that he won't take crap from anyone.

Easier said than done for some people though, believe me I know. It really all depends on how much you value this 'friendship'. if you were good friends back home, then tell them you are exhausted trying to make their time with you special + still keeping some sort normality about the house, because this is after all, your home. You are not on holiday, neither are you hoteliers, so I think you have to tell them that or you'll end up dreading the next visitors like I did.
I so know my Girl...I have visitors at the moment and even though they are delightful there is a real issue in putting across the 'we still have a real life' thing rather that giving the idea that our life is one big holiday.
