Visiting a Doctor

I thought I had my head around the medical thing here, but now I'm not so sure.

Does private health insurance cover the gap when you visit a GP who doesn't bulk bill, or is it just for when you have to see a specialist etc?

No, private medical insurance doesn't cover the gap for a GP or a specialist unless you have specific gap cover, and then I'm not sure that it covers the whole of the gap. Mostly what private medical does is gives you the option of choosing who your specialist will be, what hospital you want to go to and usually much quicker treatment.

Thanks Dorothy, I think I understood it better before I started reading all the bumf they've given us from the health insurance company!

So basically when you choose a doctor you don't need to check whether they support your insurance scheme?

The doctors surgeries seem to explain it much more clearly than the health insurers - just called them and got all the answers I needed
