We are off to Sydney and Queensland next month and are keen to visit one of the islands of the Coral Reef.
We would like to stay overnight on 1 of the islands, but we worked out it would cost over £400 pounds!! (Heron Island) There are 5 of us 2 adults and 3 kids, so the boat trip was over £200 just to get there.
Has anyone been on a day trip to one of the southern islands, is it worth it time wise?
Where is the best place to catch the day trips from ?
Are there any cheaper options of staying on one of the islands?
Any advice appreciated.

Hi tinaj, You could try Airlie Beach as a startpoint. There are some lovely small
islands there too, although I don't see the point of staying at an island...
