VISIT Australia - TV programmes no good
Hi folks, just giving a wee bit of advice for what its worth.
Lots of tv programmes recently have shown Brits emigrating to & settling in Australia, & I was wondering if many folks on here decided to put in a visa application and/or decided where to stay without having been to Australia.
For instance Perth, which is very popular amongst Brits, looks like a paradise on these programmes, & being married to a Perth girl myself would have been probably first choice for us to move to, but upon staying there for a couple of months found that it wasn't for us.

Sure, if you are a sun-worshipper, with a focus on more of the material aspects of living in Austrlia, then you will probably love Perth. And you'll certainly meet plenty of Brits, if that's what you want.
Living there certainly enables one to have an outdoor lifestyle, that's for sure.
But if like me you come from a city (or area) where you can step out into the street & see activity, then most parts of Perth may leave you feeling a little bored.

Alright Pal
I see what you mean but I think your background (Glasgow like me...Govanhill) is typical European city setup, very unlike OZ and certainly the USA which I found to be the same. They socialise in Malls (Big shopping centres the size of small towns)...Canada the same

Know what you mean about the mall gathering, the wife & I came back two weeks ago from San Diego & L.A. - found those parts of the U.S. to be very stimulating.

Used to live just off cathcart Rd, but moved to Ireland 7 years ago.
Had enough of the 24/7 drizzle, midgies and wind-burns, so we are trying escapology to Australia.

We are in the process of applying to go to adelaide. Niver been to aus before feel it will be one big adventure. but what sold it to us was the other things aus has to offer other than weather and sports. Better work oppertunites, better chances for my children. If it doesnt work out fine we will have tried it but if we dont we will always be wondering. Its just the waiting game now and we get a little 'frazzled' waiting to hear anything, but it gives us time to think about things.

I know what you mean though, but surely no one emigrates without doing plenty of research and knows whether or not the culture will suit them?

Statistically - people who have never been to Australia before emigrating settle more successfully than people who have. Fewer expectations I guess.
