Bad news if you are on a 457 through a recruitment agency.

Through a recruitment agency or the company you will be working for?

was going to use lesters to get the 457 and go through a agency to get the contract..
but looking at that i wont be able to do that now..
correct me if im wrong but the way i read it is that if you got a contract direct with the end company through lesters missing out the agency then thats ok.
but i think it would be near on impossible to find a contract without involving a agency..

had to wait a year to get a offer on my house so i took it anyway but the PR has taken much longer than i thought.(my own fault)
going to be another 6 months before i get it i reckon..

Hey guys, why is it that the UK market is so good for IT specialists where as the US and Australia is slowing down?

It is something for which I have always had some regret - instead of coming to Australia and working as a Professional Engineer I should have stayed in the SE of England and become a programmer. I have a graduate diploma in computer systems engineering along with other graduate stuff..

The UK market is not good. Contractors are being forced to take pay cuts to keep their jobs. Jim took a drop 3 years ago for this contract and hasn't had a pay rise since. A friend with old skills is now working in a call centre! Even in London, its very hard to find work. Contractor magazines have gone out of business. Regret no longer!

Do you think that this will mean there will be more IT jobs available for people who aren't there on a 457 visa?

We are moving to Brisbane area end of Feb and my husband works in IT as a SWIFT/Unix/Financial type IT person. He's not expecting there to be many jobs in Brisbane as all the big banks are in Sydney/Melbourne.
