Visa granted! Now...where to live!?!?
Hi!
We've had some brilliant news this week and have been granted our 136 visa! It's been a year to the day since we got back from our holiday in Australia and started the application process.
We've decided that we'd like to live in Brisbane, although we're finding it very difficult to find a list of the nicer suburbs within 30 mins of the CBD. Do any of you kind people have any advice? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James

Susi,
Thanks very much! We're totally over the moon. The amount of stuff we've now got to do is quite daunting though!!
Cheers,
James

Graham and Paula,
Cheers for that; we'll definitely take a look at those websites.
We noticed from your signature that you're also on your way to Brisbane. Firstly congratulations yourselves! Secondly, which suburb are you planning on going to?

Not 100% sure just yet, due to the bl**dy house sale delay, we are going for a 3 week recce on 18th May. We are staying with some friends who live in Clear Island Waters near Robina, so we will be looking within about 1 hour of this area, but that all might change when we get there and it also depends on house prices and schools for our son. Where are you heading and do you have any idea when you might be going?

If you know of a few suburbs you can also get an idea of whats there aswell as house prices etc on www.ljhooker.com.au They have a locality guide on their website and it will give you ideas of schools (if you need them!) and also restaurants, shops etc in the area. You do need to be able to type in the name of the suburb though.

Good luck with your house sale; we're also not having much interest in our house although we've got about 6 months before we're planning to go. Hope your mission in May goes well.
Currently, we just know we'd like to be in Brisbane, close enough to the city to commute in under 30 mins.

I also notice that you live not too far from us and we are in the process of trying to organize a meet (probably near Leeds) so if you are interested keep looking in the Meet-Up forums.

Well done James! We too are hoping to move out to Brisbane at the end of the year and we've looked into the eastern suburbs like Bulimba, Camp hill, cannon hill, all the way out to Wakerley. All have good little primary schools in the catchment areas and the house prices are obviously more expensive the closer to the city but are reasonable a little further out.
Hope this helps and good luck.
