Visa Granted! Now quick question on Medicare please?
 

Hi all, well the good news came through that my Visa had been granted today, I feel giddy & am smiling all day in work for a change!
I feel weriod, its like something I have been planning for 2 years has finally happended, it will hit me more when I finally leave on the flight I guess.

If only the people know, will do soon though when I hand in my notice!

Well anyway, am unsure of whether I am able to use medicare or so I wont need medical insurance when in australia as I will now be a resident? Is this correct? When I lived there as working holiday visa in 2002 I was covered by medicare.

Also my partner is from france & will be travelling on a working holiday visa, will she also need medical insurance for Oz or is she covered by Medicare?
Just a bit unsure of this & wouldnt mind clearing up before I leave (january time)

Also anyone recommend a good airline? Have been quoted cathy pacific with stop off in hong kong - sounds good to me. Anyone flew to sydney via japan?

You didn't write what kind of visa you have. If you have a permanent residency visa then you will be eligible for Medicare validating your visa. You didn't indicate what your nexpected wage would be, but if you are lucky enough to be expecting over $100k then there would be tax incentives to getting private medical insurance anyhow.
