which visa is best
Hi, im not too sure what visas my sons can come to Australia on, i know there is an eta visa, but thats just for a three month duration. I would like them to come here for anytime up to one year (dont want them having to travel out of oz after the three months is up)
If they want to stay for good then i know i have to apply for a PR for them. Im currently searching for the flights for my sons. Can any1 please tell me if its cheaper to buy them here in Australia or go with a UK site (still paying with Aussie $$$) Sorry for all the questions, hope someone can help Cheers Kim |
Re: which visa is best
You can't book flights for other people from the UK whilst in Australia. Flying out of UK needs to be booked in the UK. Flights are more expensive from Australia.

You can apply for a 6 or 12 month holiday visa (676) for them. May have to show funds that they can survive here (depending on age). If they are under 16 do they have permission to leave UK from their other parent/guradian? If they are adults the WHV is ideal.

Re: which visa is best
Actually with Singapore Airlines you can book a third party paid ticket without presenting your credit card providing you are a Krisflyer member and the ticket is for one of the up to five people you add as a redemption nominee. The eticket then shows :
CREDIT CARD VERIFICATION AND LETTER OF INDEMNITY You are not required to present the Credit/Debit Card used for this booking for verification nor submit a Letter of Indemnity. I have just done exactly this and paid for my sister in law to fly LHR to SIN on my Australian American Express. Different airlines have different rules, but its quite possible to pay for a flight for a third party and pay in GBP on your AUD credit card. Just look at the rules of the website you are using (if an agent such as expedia) or check with the airlines fine print. Actually, I've previously done this with Emirates as well as using ebookers. |

Re: which visa is best
Anyone can book flights from anywhere to anywhere else. You might not be able to do it online easily - but a travel agent can definitely organise it for you.
You don't have to live in Timbuktu to book a flight from Timbuktu to Katmandu - same as you don't have to live in the UK to book a flight from the UK to Australia. How would it be possible to cruise to the UK and fly back to Australia, or travel by Eurostar from London to Paris and fly back, if that was the case?:) |

http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_U...al/booking.jsp 4.6 For Electronic Ticket, you must present the credit card that was used to purchase the Ticket and your passport at check-in. If you fail to produce the purchasing credit card for verification, SIA reserves the right to deny the ticket holder(s) from boarding. 4.7 The credit card holder must be in the travelling party. When I e-mailed and asked about booking for my son, they told me I would be able to providing I presented my card in Singapore. It's great if it lets you, and all goes well though  |

Hopefully i can apply for a 12 month visa then Of course, you have to be an Australian citizen/PR to sponsor for that. Also, were they declared on your initial migration application? If no, you've a problem and a lot of explanation to do. |

When i came here they got asked many many times but chose not to move. Now they have changed there minds (which im more than happy about). No they weren't declared on on my initial application. So my problem is which visa do i apply for is it a 676 to start off with, then apply for another one IF they like it here. Many thanks Kim Oh im currently waiting on citizenship |
Re: which visa is best
If you didn't declare them AT ALL on your visa application - then you may well need a migration agent's assistance with any future PR application for your kids.
If you declared them as 'non-migrating' dependents (which is what you should have declared them as) then it will hopefully be straightforward for you. The 676 is the correct visa for a 6 month/12 month holiday. If the boys are both out of school then you must apply for the PR visa for them before the oldest turns 18 - or he is no longer dependent. I hope they enjoy their holiday! |

I hope they enjoy their holiday! I've seen two types of visas 676 and 679. I'm not too sure which one is for the best. I dont want them having to leave Australia after three months to go to eg NZ which would allow a further three months. Kim |
Re: which visa is best
Hi,
Go to: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/676/ Read and make sure you can provide all the info they ask for. They will usually grant the visa for the length of time you request (usually 6 or 12 months). It should be straightforward enough - they're just coming to see their Mum after all! Once they're here and have an idea about staying or not - may be worth having a quick word with an agent to see how simple it is/isn't to get child visas onshore - especially important to sort out before your eldest turns 18! PS. The 679 - is a family sponsored visa - may be appropriate - not often discussed on here. |

Oh ok. I'm sure if you'd have gone to book properly, it would have stopped you at some point. Don't know of anyone who's managed to do it but this probably means that a dozen people will now pop up saying they did it

I've always booked and paid for flights to Oz for my in-laws as well, hubby then goes into Singapore airlines office in Melbourne with CC and they give him a letter which we send to his mum and dad, but to my knowledge they've never been asked for it. We've never had a problem doing it this way.
I don't remember sending the letter to MIL. And she wasn't asked for anything either |
