Smile Venerable Victoria

Have you noticed that the most sensible and down to earth posters all seem to be based in Victoria

Now, I wonder if the more liveable climate has anything to do with this ?

We have seen some pretty good examples of people suffering from the wap and they do tend to hail from the hotter reaches of the island.

Praps they should take a holiday down South in the summer

Having chosen Perth over Melbourne and subsequently experienced Perth's brief but scorching heat, I'd suggest to forum members Melbourne's climate may actually be a huge plus. I can see how so many European migrants chose Melbourne over the years.

Melbourne and Victoria might be more appealing to some merely because it's not as isolated. Sydney and Brisbane are not such a mammoth distance as they would be from Perth.

I have a sister in Melbourne, which is why it obviously appeals, but I think I'd prefer Victoria or NSW anyway.

Liveable climate? Melbourne/coastal maybe but not in the north of the state!!!!

You'll be doubley-alright where you're headed - it's normally a few degrees cooler in Ballarat than even Melbourne !!! That will surely make you one of the most level-headed people on this forum. We don't therefore expect any nonsense posting from you once you get there

p.s. lots of European migrants came to Vic precisely for the hot climate - which provided ideal conditions for viticulture and fruit growing, as per southern Mediterranean climate.

Yes, I have too as it 'appens. In addition to the more liveable climate I would also point out the following which might also be contributory factors:

No convict beginning - only free settlers after 1835.

Much more to the place than just a bridge, opera house, harbour and Mardi Gras.

Aussie Rules as the main sport (yeah I know how many flags the interstate teams have won recently but they don't support 10 AFL teams!)

I'll leave others to add anything else they want (my tongue is firmly in my cheek BTW).

Interesting figure on a Travel Channel program last night - more than 25% of Australians live within 90 miles of Sydney Harbour. (And I love the place, almost as much as Melbourne).

I love Geelong, I live on other side of the city but Ive visted it a few times & its beautiful. The beach is fantastic & even has a little paddling pool down there for the kids. The road between the city & Geelong has been upgraded recently to. It really has got a lot going for it.

Thanks for that, we will look into it further. we were wondering about Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo. On the map Geelong looks like a nicer location being closer to the beach, I suppose on the down side its alot more expensive. Graham

I hear the traffic is going to be a bit noisy in Melbourne this weekend. International hooning time.
