Wink Vegemite or Marmite - Discuss!!

Guys,

This might seem like a really petty thread but in my house this can cause many arguements! So I want to know what people think!

I'm am a Marmite girl through and through but my hubbie (aussie) of course is a vegemite man. It has got so bad that we often blind fold each other and have little tests to see if we can tell which is which!!

Please tell me that we are not the only ones!!!!

Vegemite is the blander, inferior form of marmite. I personally reckon that the original settlers lost the recipe for marmite on the boat trip and tried to make it off the cuff. They came up with the crap now called vegemite and over the generations the Aussies have gotten used to the muck.

My Aussie wife however disagrees and insists on eating the rubbish, even though she has been in the UK for 4 years.

I'm a Brit and Vegemite is far superior to Marmite, much better flavour. Hubby - Aus hates both. Youngest daughter loves Vegemite, eldest daughter hates both.

Life would be very boring if we all felt the same.

I have to say have always love Marmite, but after our trip down under 18 months ago I got a real taste for Vegiemite, it's not as strong in flavour and it reminds me of our trip.

Vegiemite Rules!!!!

Too true - for me, Vegemite just edges it - a bit sourer and I believe that in Oz you get it in massive great pots for a fraction of the price of marmite- enough said!

But...having said that, I did like the Zippy marmite adverts!
cheers

Hi Anna

I`m a total Marmite lover when we travelled to Australia 7 yrs ago I tried to pack a jar, Chris (hubbie) said that I was mad and we`ll get it over there so I left it at home.
When I tried Vegemite I was gutted!! Its GROSS if we get into Australia I`ll be bring over a box load of Marmite

Mmmmmmmm Marmite on toast

As this unscientific survey shows, generally speaking if you are an Aussie you prefer Vegemite and if you are British you prefer Marmite - if you have a preference for either. So I think Tim Tams are better, and Twisties are better, and Cherry Ripes are better and Madura tea is better and ......zzzzzzzzzzzz

BTW Kraft (the American makers of Vegemite) have been taken over by MasterFoods. Look forward to a Mars bar with Vegemite filling or Pedigree Chum with Vegemite.
