Re: Validation Process
We too got a "Welcome to Australia" from the immigration office when we made our validation trip in March. I thanked the the officer and told him its rumored that "Welcome to Australia" greeting by immigration officers to new immigrants have now become rare. The officer replied with smile that it all depends on the day that particular officer is having, the kind of people he/she has dealt with.
On departure, the immigration officer did comment in good spirit, that they like to see Australian passports when we presented them with our Canadian and US passports with our PR visas evidenced on them. I told him we intend to move permanently to Australia soon. Cheers! Auzi |

You need to carry the old passport with the visa label in. (a) You need that at check-in in the UK (so the airline knows you do have a visa) and (b) Aus immi only have your old passport number linked to the visa, i.e. you need to show Aus immi both as well. Once you are in Oz, you can go to the local DIAC office and they will put a new label into your new UK passport free of charge :). From then on, you just travel with the new UK passport.

Thanks! Can you get the visa label replaced in the UK so you don't have to carry both passports?

Yes, they just stamp your passport in your book. Any page will do, they don't actually put it right over your visa label (couldn't read it properly if they did that).
