Default valid visa in old passport

Hi, I've just had to renew my passport, thus I now have a valid residency visa in an old passport. Info i can find via the web suggests I should simply carry both passports other info indicates I need to transfer the visa. can anyone clarify / been in the same situation.

many thanks Steve

Carrying a visa in an old passport is acceptable to DIMIA but there is a risk you can get delayed checking in for an Australia-bound flight if the airline staff don't understand this and want to check directly with DIMIA in Canberra.

Leave plenty of time for check-in as people have missed flights for this reason.

The ideal is to get a new visa stamp, however it seems the AHC London don't offer this service (although they should). As far as I know, you can get a new stamp in most cases at a DIMIA office in Australia although it may depend on where/when your visa was issued.

No problem enterting with the visa in the old passport: we've just doneit. It's a bit of a bind having to remember to take it so probably as well to get a new visa at your convenience but not essential.

hubby had to get a new passport. DIMIA put his replacement visa in new passport- a new employee tried to charge him for it, but it was actually free.
