Re: The Ute / Pick Up - Necessity or Fashio Item
I drive a Holden Rodeo dual cab, 3ltr turbo diesal 4x4 2004. Great car, loads of room for rear seat passengers, great to towing my camper trailer. Adequate for my off road for bush walking, hunting, camping etc. Good fuel economy, 65ltr tank (bit small) 400-450km in town, 600-650 out on the highway. Don't have silly stickers on it but does have spots and cb antena.
Just missing the tied up dog in the back (don't have kids lol)

Not long ago i parted company with my dodge ram quadcab SRT-10 pickup.Biggest mistake i ever made, selling it, car wise anyway, 8.3 litres of viper engine, damn thing made me laff my ass off everytime i drove it, way too much fun, if i wasnt saving to go id have another in the blink of an eye.Seriously interested in a Maloo R8 when i arrive in oz http://www.samsgarage.com/images/200...Quad%20Cab.jpg

the downside of course is that you see a lot more debris on the roads because of them. It's ridiculous sometimes what you are forced to drive around, carpets, matresses, even a fridge once!

Dont bother mate, i came to Oz, 2 years ago ordered a brand new Dual cab SR5 V6 Hilux, whilst in my recc trip, picked it up 3 months later when i got it, sure it looked amazing, just like you see them on the tv in Uk, a real Ozy truck. I will kick myself for along time to come it was crap, sure i had a quick test drive before i bought it, but my mind was not thinking, inside its drab, it handles like a tram, brakes like Oil tanker, and was just plain boring, everybody over here drives toybota's or nissans, they love them because they are boring cars ( just like the Uk ). It was very fast thought and sounded a beast Lol

The ute is a Ozy way of life, and its got its good and bad points, very intresting comments on here about it.
You do however see more vans these days, as someone else said you can keep your goods dry and safe, however, again toyota and nissan dont sell that many vans over here and only offer one type. Uts are good for builders, plumbers, landscaping etc, as you can just chuck stuff in the back, you can get your board in there too, or bike or dog, or 1 ton of sand.
Dont get confused with the 4wds that have factory tubs ( the rear bit ) these arnt really proper utes, more of a life style car, far too expensive to put sand and rocks in. Its funny here on the Gold Coast, the number of brainless peole who but 4wd's, then put 20inch rims and slicks on????

Just wondering if the Gold Coast is the Ute capital of Australia. I don't recall seeing as many as a proportion of all vehicles when we visited Sydney.
