Question using AKA names

my partner and i are coming out to beautiful aus in june with our four kids, the kids are now known as my partners surname, even though their birth cert and passport has their biological fathers surname on.do you know if there will be any problems registering them in schools etc using their now known as family name?also our oldest daughter will be 17 when we arrive and because we are on a student visa we have been told she must stay in full time education for the 2 years of our student visa, does an apprenticeship qualify as full time education?
thank you

No there should be any problem. I would say though make sure you do something official with the names. My husband was always known by his step dads name even though his birth cert was different. Caused no end of problems over the years with passports, marriage, kids birth certificates. All have references to his birth name which is a pain. With hindsight proper legal name changes should have been done when he was small.
