Used car sales in Adelaide. Advice needed
Hi Can anybody reccommend a decent used car sales in Adelaide please. I don't really wish to go to a ''Carcraft' car supermarket. Also what is the process and usually how long does it take to receiving the car after buying it. many thanks Andy

Hi ,there are used car sales showrooms all over Adelaide,we got ours on Brighton Rd,and it was a very reliable car, much more expensive over in OZ than UK for used cars mind. Process is shop around, haggle if paying cash, pay the gov tax one off fee (cant remember how much think it was a couple of hundred $$$)Get some insurance we did online, again shop around, pay your rego(like tax) 3mths 6mths whatever you wanna pay, thats about it then you drive it away!

Main South Road near Reynella has loads of 2nd hand dealers, we bought a little ford there few years ago, can't remember the name of the place, and it ran smoothly, we were even able to sell it on. Definitely agree with the above, go to a few places a few times and haggle. Good luck

Lots of car dealers and they are usually all in the same area - look on Main North Road or South Road there's hundreds of them.

Hi, we bought ours from adelaide car sales on the corner of main north road and grand junction. They were good and gave us a generous discount. I think they are on the south road too, somewhere near castle plaza.

Our 2nd car was bought from Peter Page Holden in Elizabeth. They're the complete opposite to Southgate Holden. Smarmy sales people and the service department are crap.
If you're planning to buy on finance, get an SA driver's licence as the stamp duty (around 4% on the purchase price of the car) will be sent to SA gov't by the dealer. Otherwise you'll have to hand over the cash at a Customer Service Centre.
To get your drivers licence you'll need proof of address. If you've recently arrived and don't have anything yet, download a tenancy agreement from http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/assets/fil...term_lease.pdf and fill it out with whatever details you want. This will be accepted by Transport SA as proof of address.
The time between payment and handing over of keys will depend on where you buy from. For both of ours, we waited a couple of days for the cars to be cleaned/serviced before we picked them up.

We have been looking on the main south road for a car this week. We have been advised to ask for a discount for cash, ask for the rego and stamp duty to be included and also for some petrol. None of the dealers will budge, they all say no way, cost on forecourt plus all extras-I can't seen to get them to budge-what am I doing wrong?

The franchise dealers are more likely to give you a car with a full tank of petrol. As for including stamp duty in the cost of the car, just add 4% to the price you negotiate to get an idea of what the stamp duty will be.

Just remebered-Eddie, bottom of Anzac Highway, just as you go into Glenelg.Originally a brummie from UK.

Hubbie generally just asks what they can do with the price, doesn't even mention cash.

We picked up our car right at the end of the month when the manager was trying to meet his sales targets so we did get a discount. did try for rego etc but they werent having any of it!
This probably varies depending on the price of the car you are looking at ... we were looking at 10k and under.

Its not as expensive as it is back in the UK!! I drive a Nissan Patrol and it cost me $200 to fill it up yesterday!! But thats both tanks and that will last a few weeks!
We bought her from the Nissan dealer on Main North, had a deal, but then it was 42 degrees and the man did say we were the only ones silly enough to be out buying cars!! But it worked we got all sorts thrown in!!

As long as you have the cash you can pay for the vehicle after the auction and take it away the same day.
The website is good too. It has a transaction history so you can see the prices at recent sales. The cars are good, never usually more than 2 or 3 years old, with low mileages and often still under warranty. And the prices are always better than dealership prices and you can bid against the dealers to get the better of them. I bought a Subaru Forester at the Fleet SA auction in 2004 and the car's a dream. I would buy there again without question.
