Question Use Agent or not????

Hi,
we are just starting to get things together to apply for PR.
I'm an RGN and Neil my hubby a paramedic. We have 1 son 16 week old.
Does anyone recommend using an agency to do the work?
Does it better your chances or is it easy enough to apply ourselves?
Anybody with any good advice, bad/good experiences with agencies?
Cheers
Marie

Hi Marie,

I'm all for saving as much money as I can, so i did it myself.
Print the formsd off, read the online booklets and if in doubt ask on this forum.
Your first start point should be the DIMA website & finding out who your assessing body is and sending off to them.

As an SRN I would ave thought that you would get through and nurses are being fast tracked at the moment.

Bye

Hello Marie,
I am also a nurse and we applied under skilled independant without the use of an agent. You can download all the necesary forms from DIMIA and the guidelines for filling it it are comprehensive.
We had no problems with our application and found it all fairly straight forward. We received our PR visas in 14 weeks.
I think agents are very useful if you have complicated situations or a borderline case but if everythings straightforward its easy to do independantly.
Anything you're not sure about, someone on here would know!
Good luck,

Hi Marie,

we didn't use an agent and had no problems. The paperwork is pretty straight forward and there is loads of advice / help available from this website and books etc. My wifes cousin has been using an agent and has got the complete runaround. I'm all for saving the money and using it on air tickets!

I'm only repeating what everyone else has said and that is if you are a nurse and fulfill the basic criteria then do the form yourself. it'll save you a sackload of dosh.
I did ours and we got them in 15 weeks (long time for a nurse)

Default thanks all.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I will do it myself.
It costs enough without paying for extras!
Just trying to get the necessary stuff together for ANCI.
Hoping to be in Oz early 2005, hopefully Perth.
Good Luck everyone and thanks again.

If you want to go early 2005, then delay getting your police checks for a little while, as they set the date of them + 1 year as the date you have to validate your visas by.

Hi Marie ,
I used a company in Chester called The emmigration group and they were excellent .
They were really thorough about what they asked for and very helpful . But they did seem pricey , however i wouldn`t of had a clue where to start the process and as promised we have our visas . Start to finish it has cost approx £4000 but bearing in mind about £1500 was `fixed fees` and also theres things that cost money along the way like passports , certifying documents , etc plus the process has taken us over two years to complete , so its not as if you pay it all in one go.
And a bonus for me was they do a draw once a year for their clients and i won a flight to Australia , which i`ll be using when i go on my own in FEB . They were good.
But i never knew about this website when i started and from what i`ve seen of it it`s really informative .
But i`d still use an agency if i was going through it again because i`d want to be certain i got in .
Good luck , mail me if you need any info

We sent the medicals and the police checks at the same time, so I don't know for sure which date they take. I'm sure somebody else on here will know!

Hi Marie,

your date of entry is determined by the date of your medical or police check whichever you had done first. Lancashire Police are pretty good and I had my check back in 48 hrs.

Thanks again everyone for the advice.
I'm just sorting out my registration with WA nurses board.
e-mailed them 2 days ago they are really prompt.
I don't need to do full ANCI assessment thank god!
Just re-register with them for $63 and do modified ANCI assessment which costs $266.
So saving a couple of hundred $ and it's alot easier!!
Getting excited about the whole thing.
Trouble is can't really go till Jan 2005, gives my hubby chance to get at least 1 year experience as a paramedic.
Never mind we will be there soon than we think!

Take care all
Marie
