USA is exempt.

However, if you only have license for an "automatic" type of car then you won't be able to drive a "manual" (stick shift). It doesn't say that, but it's standard in most countries. :)

Good luck.

Most countries do not make that distinction on their licences - so that's untrue.

It's like that in the UK. If you pass you're test in an Automatic car you can only get an Automatic licence. http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/practicaldr...st/carfaqs.asp
Not sure on how they translate that here though.
Doesn't apply in South Australia...they'll let you drive anything here :D

It may not state it on the license, but the restriction is there if you did your (practical) driving test in a vehicle with an automatic transmission. Try the UK, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Zimbabwe etc... I have lived in three of those countries, done driving tests in all three of them, and it certainly is the truth.

And it also applies in Australia too if on P plates.

Swapping a license from the USA may be different and you'll probably be ok with no restrictions, but it's worth checking out what restrictions may or may not apply in the state you intend to live in.

And the same for motorbikes there. You'd never be allowed to ride a manual bike with an automatic license, death would shortly ensue.
