Isn't Vegemite basically the same made from veggies not beef?
What about finding somebody who is coming out to Brissie in next few weeks & seeing if they will bring some?

No, they're both 'suitable for vegetarians'. They are similar but each has a fairly distinctive taste. My Aussie friend in Dublin can't stand Marmite and has her parents ship vegemite out to her. I don't like vegemite and might just have to find a source of Marmite myself when we get to Brisbane.

I have conducted extensive trials both here (UK) and abroad and can confirm that NOTHING is 'basically' the same as Martmite.

I once paid A$50 for one of the really small jars of Marmite at an expo in Sydney- worth every bloody cent. We then videoed ourselves eating it as we were so excited and hadn't had any for months.

Please forward a £5 postal order for a copy of this 2min self-indulgent orgy of personal pleasure video starring me, my beloved, a very small jar of Marmite and two slices of bread.

Who's mate?
Your mate.
My mate?
MARMITE.

Try Promite (widey available in Coles). It's far closer to Marmite in taste than Vegemite and it ROCKS!
I love Marmite too but no use chasing a label when you can have something similar and/or better is there?

Buy Promite and live a happy, longer and more positive refreshing life

www.treatsfromhome.com.au

They deliver from Sydney in about a week to Brisbane, I didn't order marmite, but lots of other stuff, and they were very helpful. Marmite is on their curent order form.

I agree, the squillions of yeast extract products on the Aussie shelves are nothing like Marmite. Except... there is something called My Mate (!) which is packaged identically to Marmite (except for the actual name, obviously) and whose ingredients are identical to Marmite and which in a blind tasting I couldn't tell apart from Marmite. Hurrah!

Only trouble is, I can't remember where it came from! I'll try to find out.

Have you tried the chocolate shop in Level E of the Myer Centre? Or the Highland Fling shop (not been myself) at the corner of the Pacific Highway and Logan motorway?

Our recent trip to the UK made me realise how much I missed Marmite and we came back with a giant jar.

They sell it in a deli in a small viallage just up the road from me.......the sort of place where you would least expact it!

Doesn't help you much - I'm in the wrong area of the country - sorry!!!

Hope you find some.

Marmite is called Our Mate here as the name of Marmite was being used by some other company here.
The packaging is the same.

They sell it in Bilo for about $3.95.

I've seen it too, is it exactly the same stuff as UK Marmite?

The do sell it in the Myer Centre, but their stock seems to be random, so its just luck whether or not they have any in.
