URGENT! Family death, Bridging Visa and PR application
Hi everyone,
My sister-in-law's mother just passed away a few hours ago overseas.
She is/was on a 489 state sponsored visa for the last 4 years and has submitted her PR application about 1 year ago.
Can she apply for a Bridging B visa? I've read in some places that Bridging visas are only whilst you wait for another visa application and can't be use when waiting for a decision of PR.
Is this correct?
What options does she have?

Doesn't the 489 stay effective until a decision is made on the 887?

She should check her status on VEVO or clarify from her paperwork exactly her position. A bridging visa will be issued between onshore visas including PR but only kicks in when the original visa lapses. There are several kinds of bridging visa and they all have different conditions she needs to check carefully or get someone who understands such things to do so.
I know after a bereavement your head can be foggy but it really is important as she may not be allowed back if she gets it wrong
Ringing immigration is not advised as they do unfortunately give out misleading information but can at least clarify exactly what visa she currently holds and it’s validity but don’t take advice from them.
